Proposed stats for Prototype level:
34.41 HP (-2.37 damage per burst) 937.50 RPM (-4.375 rounds per second) 56.50 accuracy (-2.52 accuracy) 60 clip size (+6 rounds per magazine) 300 max ammo (-1 magazine) 3.00s reload time (+0.40s reload time) 90/13 CPU/PG (+9 CPU//+5 PG) 54 optimal (-12m) 78 falloff (-6m)
Let's see who can figure out why I posted these exact stats.

Anyway, more food for thought. Satirical changes for the Prototype Rail Rifle:
56.10 HP (-4.4 damage per round) 400 RPM (-61.54 RPM) 57.96 Accuracy (-0.32 accuracy) 36 clip size (-6 rounds per magazine) 300 max ammo (+2.33 magazines?) 3.00s reload time (-0.20s reload time) 90/13 CPU/PG (+6CPU//-4PG) 48 optimal (-30m) 78 falloff (-24m)

I'm not for removing content unless it's truly necessary. The variations should have their own flare, their own little quirks - they shouldn't just be downgraded versions of the other weapons.

The variations should have their own flare, their own little quirks - they shouldn't just be downgraded versions of the other weapons. so let me get this straight, just because a scrub skill into gallente blaster rifle they should get all racial variation ( breach, burst, tactical, full auto) without any disadvantage versus the scram, cr and rr, while said rifle are limited to 2 variation, seems pretty balanced, give me a breach or a charged shot cr and then we can speak, seriously i'm all about weapon having their own flare and i agree the plasma rifle needs a little buff, but the variation should stay weaker than specialized racial weapon
Pah, disagree entirely. It shouldn't be inherently weaker "just because" and that logic falls apart when you start comparing Assault variants. They should have their own strengths and weaknesses, appealing to the race's combat philosophy while emulating the weapon that it was designed around. Having under-powered weaponry as some appeal to nature is foolhardy and all it does it creates unnecessary power creep.
And no, I never said they shouldn't have any disadvantage - but they surely shouldn't be disadvantageous in every possible way save for magazine size by a few rounds or one additional magazine. It's senseless. I'd like to see the Burst Assault Rifle, with it's shorter range and lower rate of fire, have higher damage to hallmark on typical Gallente CQC nature. It doesn't make any sense to have a weaker weapon in the game for the sake of the weapon it's modeled after.
There is absolutely no reason to use the Burst Assault Rifle over the Combat Rifle. There is absolutely no reason to use the Breach Assault Rifle over the Rail Rifle. This is a bad design and the variation should -NOT- stay weaker than the specialized racial weapon - if that's the case than all of the Assault variants of the non-Assault Rifle racial weapons need to be nerfed into the ground.

I always love when people think along the same track as I do
You know what truly amuses me is for a while the AR was OP... and then the new rifles came out... and even though they made no changes to the AR what-so-ever, suddenly it's no OP anymore!

I-Shayz-I wrote:The burst, tactical, and breach are all just variants of the AR that are specifically worse than the actual racial rifles themselves.
And yes, there is a reason to use these weapons instead...because they don't require any extra skill points. If you skill to level 5 AR, you have all 4 types of prototype rifles available to you without having to spend the extra skill points necessary to unlock the other racial variants.
Besides, these weapons should never compare to the normal racial variants as they are just copies.
Then I'd wager they don't need to be there ^_^
They're not supposed to be the same but they certainly shouldn't just be there being useless. I mean it's nice and all having them when you have the skill points to use them but there isn't any logic in using a noticeably under-powered weapon because the game revolves around the design of it "not being as good because it's a copy". As previously stated, they need to have their own perks; their own unique flavor that still allows them to be balanced and a weapon I can look at and say: "I like that!"
Just as well it's important to have well balanced variants when it comes to the meta-game. I like scrambler rifles but the semi-automatic business just doesn't appeal to me that much. I like having a fully automatic weapon but I'd also like to be able to do a lot of shield damage if necessary. At current, there's no real reason to use the Tactical Assault Rifle because the Scrambler is just... Better. With no skills invested in it you can fire off 20-25 rounds (as opposed to the TAR's mag capacity of 18) at a much faster rate of fire with higher damage rounds at longer range with the ability to charge if it's a hard target
So, yeah, I can see that the TAR shouldn't be as powerful but it shouldn't just be weaker "because", especially if I need a weapon that's diverse. Can you imagine a Tactical Combat Rifle being significantly weaker and then facing a team that's using a bunch of armor and the Scrambler is still the better choice because it's applied damage is still higher?
