I believe that like dropships, lavs should get a driver controlled turret to make up for it's inability to currently fill it's light attack role while remaining mobile. To compensate this change from the passenger's point of view, they should gain the ability to fire their weapons out of the lav. This would not step on the eventual Mav's role since as far ss we know, it will most likely move slower than the lav while being much more heavily armed and amoured.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure how this would work out from a control perspective, if it's based on the current Assault Dropship means of controlling a turret (ie. aiming is done entirely by the position of the vehicle rather than an independently moving turret) then it'll end up being extremely difficult to make that work on a LAV.
Aside from that though, I actually believe that the LAV IS in fact fulfilling it's role as an attack vehicle on the battlefield. I can only speak from personal experience but I'm actually extremely successful using the thing solo while running around with railgun turrets. The thing is like a rapid fire, high damage tactical sniper rifle and it's insanely good in its current state. The only tricky part is getting used to watching your health while engaging your enemies and making sure to orient your turret in such a way so that when you start shooting you'll already be pointed at the person you're trying to take out. Get used to that though and you can already mow down people quite easily.

As far as controls I was thinking it would be similar to tank controls. As much as I like your strategy (and I plan on using it), for a solo player this will just cut out the seat switching part, which lowers the survivability of the lav since you can't move it.

So basically...you want to join in vehicle stomping. You don't want to spec into HAVs or ADS,yet you still desire to have the raw killing power of a vehicle turret. I have to say no...ADS and HAVs do it too much already, the last thing this game needs is killer blaster taxis. There is nothing 'positive' or 'good' about this suggestion. It would only be abused.

Doe got LAV overdose and now he's giddy.
As far as interface, it would honestly suck to not be able to look left and right because your turret is tracking...would make reverse a *****.

So you're saying it wouldn't be a good or positive thing to finally give lavs a role? You don't even need to invest so,to get a decent hav, ads is another story but it's turret is no where near as powerful as a large turret. Besides, lavs are much more vulnerable with maxed skills than havs or adses with basic skills.

I mainly posted this because of all the times I've shot still lav gunners out of their turret, it's pretty sad that a rifle or even, the plc outperform small turrets.

Driving and rotating a turret at the same time might create very poor driving, as it would be a small turret. I would not put a large turret on a small vehicle.

Though it may be hard, it's a step up from having to stop completely, and why did you bring up large turrets?

How about a fixed central turret on the lav. Can't move it, just fires straight forward
