A heavy shotgun wouldn't work so well unless it had a range >5m, because it's extremely slow speed would easily cause you to be gunned down before you get that close. Or a charge up mode that when charged up will fire a concentrated long range shot. So an instant fire will be spread can can be used at close range. It spreads the damage over an area. Any sort of charge will concentrate the shot.
