Who thinks the RR is fine? To me it seems like the RR sucks up close and there's even times when I get in medium range and someone out strafes my rate of fire. What I mean by that is, I'm shooting a him and my rate of fire is too slow and he's gotten lucky and somehow ends up not getting hit very much.
People need to complain about the CR. While it has a little less range than RR, it eats everything up from close and far. Don't even get me started on the assault variant.
I use all of the rifles. The SR is still extremely powerful, I'm really thankful most people have switched to the RR. I don't see any of this as a problem glaring as big as tanks. |

Yet it does the same damage as the CQC plasma rifle, at almost twice the range, with a tighter hipfire spread. Charge time isn't significant when you can pre-charge so ludicrously easily.

The RR is fine in CQC relative to the CR and the ScR, and is fine in log ranges compared to the other rifles i.e a competent ScR or CR user should win most of the time.
It's far superior to the AR, thanks to its far greater versatility granted by extraordinary range and nearly zero penalty.
The CR's a bit broke too, but the ScR is punishing and rewards you for it.

I skilled in to the RR and find it is not great close up compared to the combat and even the standard rifles...I tend to stay around the 130 + mark when where I can make use of the sight...

Personally, I think it's fine in terms of killing power, but the fact that it can still be super effective at both short and super long ranges is ridiculous.
It needs to be more like the sniper rifle in terms of rail tech. The .25 second delay is supposed to be the balancing factor and it just doesn't cut it. Not only that but the hip fire needs to be super accurate OR super dispersed, similar to trying to use the laser rifle or sniper rifle at close ranges.
In other words, the standard RR is too similar to an AR. This is what the assault RR is supposed to be...

Let me rephrase that.
The RR lets AR players do exactly what they were doing with the AR back before 1.7, except at a longer range. Unlike weapons like the scrambler rifle, HMG, Laser Rifle, and SMG, the RR doesn't have an added balancing factor to make it justifiable to be so effective at its ranges.
For instance, the HMG melts people at its range, but can overheat, and deals almost no damage outside of that small range. The scrambler has a long range, but overheats if you try and fire it too quickly. The SMG is proabbly one of the most OP weapons in the game in terms of damage, but it's hard to aim, has a lot of kick, and the short range makes it situational. Oh and most importantly, the laser deals lots of damage at long range, but can't do anything at short range.
Do you see where I'm going? The RR just needs a balancing factor to justify the ability to do damage at long ranges.

Sounds like the weapon is working as designed. Use better cover to get in the necessary range. If there is no cover, call in a car and use it as cover.
I personally select my weapon based on the type of map I'm playing as I've done in every FPS but just started doing in DUST because lets face it the AR or SR was the only viable options before.
If I'm trying to control a city I'll use the CR on an assault/logi or I'll use sp and ar combo on a scout. If I'm out in the open trying to cover an outside objective or playing ambush, I use the RR so I can engage further out. Even with all the RR's running around, I still do great with my 'Dren' AR which has had the range on it gimped. |

The RR sucks up close. I lose a lot of engages when I get too close to the enemy. That's a pretty effective gimp on a weapon. It's to the point where I only run the RR on an assault so I can pull out my SMG when they get too close. |

So it was designed to do the same DPS as close-ranged weaponry, but at more than twice their range? Why use anything else, then? (And incidentally, I'm noticing more and more that no one is using anything else).
And yes, I'm aware you've said that you're unable to use it well in CQC, but that's not the same thing as it being poor in CQC. The Laser Rifle is poor in CQC, because no matter how great your aim, you're only providing a spotlight for your death. The Rail Rifle is good in CQC so long as you can track your target, something many players (as I have seen) are quite able to do.
I contribute nothing.

The RR is the last of the rifles I would want in CQC but it is far from useless in CQC I've gotten kills with it that way and have gotten killed that way but I would still rather have a CR, AScR, ScR, or AR in close

AR isn't as effective because everyone armor tanks people. a tighter spread is actually bad.
