During my five months of Dust there have been tons of posts about how terrible matchmaking is. And it only seems to have gotten worse during my time playing. Can you please explain how matchmaking currently works and how you plan to make it better?
This is probably the BIGGEST problem with Dust right now and it is most likely hurting player growth more than anything else.
Whether I play solo or with a squad one side always seems to be stacked much better than the other side and it happens so often it can't be chance.

I doubt Nullarbor is going to coming out and explain the matchmaking algorithms. It's been asked about before and nothing was said then.
The low player count doesn't help matters no matter how much tweaking is done. All we can do is wait and see.

also for some reason now the games start before they are even full in addition to the other problems, this oftin leaves entire teams empty or gives one team a huge advantage in either manpower or a giant head start on the objectives.
matchmaking currently fails at the most basic concepts of matchmaking... even teams, dont give one team a head start... |

I don't expect them to explain their code. Just what stats if any does matchmaking go by. And if it currently doesn't, which seems to be the case, do they have any plans they are willing to share that would alleviate some of the extremely lopsided matches we get day after day after day.

If we had 50k players i'm sure match making would not be a problem, but we don't . |

We are never going to get to 50k players if 16 noobs are always up against two proto squads.
Personally I would be willing to wait a few mins for matches to be better balanced. I think alot of people would if it increased the enjoyment of the game. Nobody likes to be redlined in the first five minutes and it is not fun to red line a team either. It gets boring quick.
Most players wait 5-10 mins to get a gal/min fw game at peaktime. I think most of us could handle a few minute wait if it meant the matches were better balanced.

Low player count is one thing, but when you consistently see multiple squads of the same corp on one team and randoms on the other something is wrong.

Dust514 has a Battle Finder* and there is no matchmaking. There never has been and since we thought we were getting one when the Squad Finder was added to the Battle Finder I would guess that it ain't ever gonna happen. Get used to it.
Don't get me wrong, it is the biggest problem with Dust514. I believe it just isn't going to get one.
And so it goes.
* Remember when we found out that the Battle Finder wasn't broken? It was actually choosing the battle type based on the highest count of selected types in each batch of 32 players. They did that ... On Purpose! Funny CCP/Shanghai always with the jokes.

Well matchmaking is purely based on your connection. The server creates a game on each battle server, it then looks for players who have the best connections and pairs them in the match.
That's all there is to it, there is no skill system or anything, we don't have the player base for it apparently. Your welcome.

Even if they wanted to implement a skill based match making queue, how would they do it? By gear used? People switch gear tiers all the time. SP? High SP =/= high skill. KDR? Easily paddable or lowered. Hate to say it, but this why complex gear/level based FPS's don't exist. CCP bit off way more than they can chew.
Either make gear and SP mostly irrelevant or just put it in the newbie guide that they will be crushed mercilessly over and over for six months. |
