I run a commando as an AV fit. Swarms in one slot, AR in the other. Sniper/AR fits are sweet for commandos as well. I have seen some AR/Shotgun fits, but that doesn't seem feasible to me. To get the most benefit, should do a medium/long range and short range weapon. |

I run mine as a slayer suit. Standard commando with CR and MD/LR.
Honestly though, they all are good. LR/scr, md/cr, RR/Sniper, twin mass drivers, Cr/Acr(lol), hell, i even fit a Cala's SMG for a few matches yesterday.
Under 28db

Oh, you mean the suit. Perhaps a ScR + CR or RR combo to wreck armor and shield tankers alike? Before 1.7 I would have said swarms and an AR would be solid, but, yeah, lolswarms not so much now.
Once they "fix" it, I'm planning on an LR coupled with maybe an ACR or possibly an AR.

Combat a Rifle and rail rifle will let you handle all infantry at pretty much any range. If you want to go AV make a separate suit that runs two AV lights and a hive, at least until AV gets a buff.
Keep in mind that we're getting racial commandos, and they'll all be getting racial damage skills, so picking a suit and weapon combo that compliment each other might be a bit tricky. I'm looking at a damped ar/shotty Gal commando myself. Might be fun.
Fire of Prometheus runs the ARC programme...I think its a corp now? Dedicated commando outfit. Lots of experience to point you in the right direction if you want it :)

Hey, worth a shot, no? Lots of ISK on the line for whoever can prove to be the best Commando before 1.8 hits.
As for my suggestions, I recommend a laser rifle, assault scrambler rifle, and nanite injector. However, everyone is different and it's important to find what works for you.

Really? This guy says he is going Commando "today" and sounds like he is not even aware of the changes coming in 1.8. Doesn't sound like he's doing this because a new FOTM at all.

I wasn't speaking of the OP, rather amount of people 'suddenly' realizing they want to be scouts/commandos.
It doesn't take a genius to realize why many are donning the suit just before 1.8.

I suggest 2 mid to long range weapons. Roll with a squad. Don't get caught alone or in CQC cause you will be destroyed.

Depnds what range you want to engage out to, and how you want to play the commando.
I make use of the CRD-9 and ELM-7 ASCR and Laser Rifle, respectively, which in future will let me take adavantage of the Amarrian laser weapon buffs, and engage at mid to long range.
For equipment if going solo pick up Repping Nanohives.
If in a squad with solid armour tankers pick up high tier Nanite injectors.

Repping hives can make your commando very expensive while hurting the quality of your modules/weapons, unless you're using the Compact which is only useful one time and then you're stuck without any equipment. I used to run Commando with Wiyrkomi hives exclusively for a long time because I thought it was the only viable way to Commando, but since discovering the usefulness with the Nanite Injector I've never went back. Makes the fit cheapers, allows for better modules/weapons, and has generally been resulting in better performances. If running solo, just find the biggest cluster of players and hang out around there.

I recently did the same, been running my sentinal suit for soo long... figured i'd change it up a bit. What i enjoy most about the commando suit is the sidearm reload bonus(+5% per level!) Add 2 Flaylocks with level 5 reload as well and you will be pumping shots like a mad man.. Add an advanced scanner and yum yum yum eat em UP! |
