I lived in Uzbekistan for a year, teaching English, and can confirm that they take their education pretty seriously there as well. Now are they as serious as the Koreans or Japanese are portrayed to be? No idea, although several of my students were of Korean descent.
I know nothing about Uzbekistan and can't come up with a single Uzbekistani stereotype.
Mine was a clumsy attempt to name an Asian country that carrot top, likely (based on his skilful prose) would not have considered to be an Asian country. Teasing him for using an inappropriately broad term when he appears to be referring primarily to Japanese.
