I swear, trying to smoothly pivot my Gunnlogi is a battle unto itself. Try to pivot right, everything seems fine then my HAV decides, "Naw man, we're going left!" Is there some reason this happens? Some tom-foolery with the camera angle and how exactly I tilt the joystick or something? It's pretty frustrating and has even caused my demise on more than one occasion. Or am I the only one who has this problem? I've never read anyone mentioning it before.

Both tank types seem to get a hiccup when trying to pivot. If you are moving ever so slightly otherwise true pivoting gets confused.

From what I can gather, tanks have a "forward" and "backward" drive mode. When going one direction, it takes a second for the HAV to "shift gears" and go the opposite way. (Really noticeable when going straight forward then straight back, there's a pause before you change directions).
What may be the issue is when turning left, for example, your left stick is slightly back, meaning that the HAV is in reverse, rotating the tank right. Best way to fix is to stop for a second, move slightly forward and sweep the stick far left.
I hate driving tanks. Far to cumbersome.

Because they coded all tank movements, Forward, Backward, Left & Right Turn, into one (1) stick.
They should have added another control option like an LAV, L1 is Backward & R1 is Forward & steering (L & R) on the stick. |

Have been asking for semi-competent controls for HAVs ever since.
For now, the workarounds mentioned above are the best options. I wish we had decent controls instead. |

The thumb stick is terrible when it comes to defining a perfect pivot. With the controller you must be either moving forward or backward for it to turn, even if it's the tiniest amount of movement.
I drive with the WASD on the keyboard. There is no delay in motion and because turning becomes 100% turn and not mostly-turn-but-a-bit-forward I am able to turn faster. |

Yeah... not one to say 'this game did it bettter! Copy them!' But PS2 has a 'switch reverse turning on tanks' Meaning that turning left while backing up turns you the same counterclockwise direction as when you're forwards.
