This isn't a full fix, just a temporary solution. One of the problems with new players is that they can't field anything past MLT-STD. What i suggest is to make skills cost less from levels 1-3, but more from 4-5, so that in the end the total cost from 1-5 remains the same, but getting ADV gear would be a simple task for at least a basic frame and an ADV weapon. What do you guys think?

Interesting idea. It could also slow down people racing towards proto as quickly as possible. Making players spend longer with std and adv gear, before pushing for proto.

Interesting, but I'm on the fence.
One thing that comes to mind is that this would make skilling into FOTM easier. When they skill FOTM I don't think the people that do it skill all the way to level 5, some might, but others wouldn't because they know it'll get nerfed so they conserve SP for the next FOTM.
This would also promote becoming a generalist over Specializing in a single role. Jack of all trades, master of none sort of thing. This could be good or bad depending on your perspective.
I think there're reasons against it, while at the same time, reasons for it.

i think it would simply help new players be able to acquire their decent gear early and specialize into one role early so that they have a way to counteract at least a bit of protostomping, while making it require commitment to the game to get really good gear
