Damn. I wasn't quick enough to give you your first like. Oh well. Now, you have three. Anyways, yeah.
Starting before 1.5 was good in terms of Academy WP. Here, you'll get stomped, now. If I had a chat channel, I'd tell you to join it, but I don't. Instead, all I can do to help you is to tell you to join my corp and I'll fund you until you have learned the game. My corp's name is Dah Gods O Bacon. Just send an application and ask for Joel. I'll show you the ropes.
You can also join Dust University, RON1N (if you're into fast, but weak suits), and a couple others I forgot. They're quite good and dedicated to showing you the game, too.

Don't run solo, don't run silent. Get on comms in a squad. Find a corp, play with corpmates. None of these things are optional.

Welcome to dust, just remember that killing and dying go hand in hand, have fun. You will experience some of the nastiest, dirtiest tactics ever here, there are corps dedicated to trolling in combat.

That's the interesting dichotomy of New Eden. Corps dedicated exclusively to teaching new players are balanced by corps who's only goal is to farm them for kills or ISK. Most, of course, lie somewhere inbetween.

Fist thing you should do is take ambush off of your battle finder.

and, OP, you probably already know since you are here, but there's lots of good stuff on the rookie training grounds. If you're going to go into logistics then redbleach's logi code thread is required reading.
