We have been told that 1.8 is due out mid February/March according to CCP Saberwing. In the past, we typically see patch notes the week before the patch goes live. We also receive patches on Tuesdays... this leads me to the following speculation...
The only Tuesday that I would consider "Mid February" would be 2/18; this would mean we may receive patch notes 2/10 - 2/14.
As for "Mid March", same dates; 3/18 for the patch date with patch notes arriving 3/10 - 3/14.
TL;DR the earliest we should expect to see patch notes is two weeks from now. The latest is six weeks.

Getting anything in/out/through Shanghai next week will be unlikely as it is one of the bigger national holidays starting on the 31st of Jan. |

Bette be expecting 6 weeks. Looks like a ton of stuff going in to 1.8. Also they have pretty much had to rework a lot of their original plans due to player feed back. So...

Agreed. I would like to have 1.8 sometime in the next three weeks, but I think that is a pipe dream.
Keeping with my speculation that 1.8 launches 3/18 that would mean it will have been 14 weeks since 1.7 was launched. Does this mark an end to the "rapid fire updates"?

I believe so - It might be the direction the new EP is heading, but I'm not sure of anything anymore - I have a feeling we'll be told "wait until fanfest" for anything concrete (roadmap, re-structuring, priorities, etc.).. Wasn't he supposed to do a sort of a new year's post as to the state of dust? |

I don't remember him saying that, but I don't keep up with him. His last tweet was from mid October and he has posted one dev blog that I know of.
Fanfest is early May; I sincerely hope we will get more information about the future of Dust sooner than three months from now...
