Does anyone else think that we need a way to peek around corners/objects without exposing 50% or more of our mercs?

There are lots of headglitching spots if you look hard enough. My favorite is calling in a LAV just because the hood is a perfect height for clipping off of.
So about those vehicle locks...

I found that if I slowly inch out for a view of the field, I get killed, but if I just dart out into the open wildly and then run for cover I am more likely to live. Then I just feel awkward about the gameplay in general, because there's no real way to lay low.
Another alternative I've found is to retreat about 80m or more in order to get a decent view. Of course, this only works under certain conditions.

COD recently did the corners for this rather smartly controlled on a controller (basically ads near corner and you auto lean) I could see a similar feature being added if the time allowed for it (this would mean that every suit would have to get a new animation though)

Counter Strike fixed the head glitching problem by having the FPS GÇ£cameraGÇ¥ at the level of the players neck.
If you don't know head glitching works; its caused because your bullets are actually being fired out of your head (to match with what you're seeing on screen) and don't actually come out of your gun. However people looking at you; the animation makes it look like those bullets are coming out of your weapon. Letting you stick a sliver of your head out while being able to still hit people; even though your gun should be shooting that wall, floor or in Ken's case that LAV hood....

If I had it my way this game would play a lot more like ARMA with these kinds of features. |

However you should look into the rainbow six vegas series for the cover system. Its very good for more tactical gameplay and allows you to use cover properly. Of course it would be moot unless they fix all the invisible walls and hill climbing problems with the steeper terrain.

Deka Ex Human Revolution had a nice feature for this.
Camera shifted from first person to third person when you hugged a corner.
I think this could be implemented in dust considering that the engine already has support for third person view, as seen in the mercs quarters and whenever you jump into a vehicle. |

Prone and lean would be good. Less likely to show up on radar if your prone, but since my role almost constantly has me sprinting, I would kill [ha] to be able to actually 'scout' around a few corners then having me being spotted cause I cant see around that corner....

A better way to order squad orders please, maybe a bit more in detail too, how about giving a commander role? or just give the squad leader heaps more options in map mode, yea i guess this is a copy from BF2142, but really should Dust be far supperior in terms of this? i should be able to direct commanders on many battlefields at once for that matter
lets remove or make OB far more expensive FAR add more support rewards, resupply box? area scan? how about some thing that shows the bullet path of shooters outside say 2-3 hundred metres? what about a tracking beacon which you can place on vehicles which sends a missile to them ACTUALLY killing them instead of letting them zoom through multiple OBs |

They could do something of a mix between the Killzone 2-3-SF cover system and the new one seen in CoD Ghosts.
Crouching next to a waist-high barrier? Aiming while like this will prop your weapon on the barrier, providing a more stable, covered position to fire from. This also works with taller, torso-high barriers if you are standing next to them.
Standing next to a corner? Aiming while like this will lean your upper body out, allowing you to fire under cover.

I remember Metal Gear doing something similar for the first-person perspective. The pressure on the triggers determined how much you leaned.

Gameplay already favours evasive types enough, immortal clones don't give a fk. I'd say no, theres too much that favours wimpy types and not enough actual gun game.
Seriously, these kind of ideas takes us even further away from immortal clones and closer to caring far too much about dying.

And scanners much? Just to rub salt in this thread.
No, completely pointless, shafts scouts a bit with third person view, corner camping and promotes even more evasive rubbish when getting a decent full on gun fight is hard enough to get without people running away.

During beta I asked about cover mechanics and the ability to lean out and shoot from cover like you can in Ghost Recon and Mass Effect.
I think this game needs something like that at least. |
