Installing the game on 26 th or 27th of January I can call myself a player open beta veteran. While it is debatable I don't want people who played this game since 2012 throwing tomatoes at my because of the word "veteran".
When I first started the game I got a nerderection from the intro clip - it radiated a very deep lore with a history of players and supposedly a variety of backstabbing events. Before I made this character I had 2 or 3 tries at it. When I play RPGs I usually pick the neglected class like stealth or something cool like that. This time i decided to be a logi - supporter who flies drop-ships and is generally a combat engineer of some kind. Upon realizing that the SMG I got with the starter fit was bad (didn't know that the skillpoint difference was so little) I made a new one with an assault rifle. And then I realized it - I wanted to be a slayer.
First match I did was the thing that got me to stick with dust and to be honest it was quite important - it was a drop-ship and 2 guys with mics doing halo drops on objectives. It felt epic and different - it felt quite cool to land on the ground with an other guy and the pilot overlooking us taking the objective. The pilot was quite bad and it resulted in a lot of lost drop-ships. With the amount of drop-ships lost they were soon out of ISK. Little did they know I had 10 M (which felt like I was rich at the moment). We did a couple of drops more when I joined another squad.
I feel as I have grown a bit from the guy who was happy when he took down a player to what I feel I can do now. One thing what i miss what the alien feeling the game gave off at the start.
Will use Bolt Pistol even if it's OP or bad.

I loved that alien feel and some of the random map variations.
I wonder if new players still get that epic feeling?

There's nothing like hearing a dropship pilot over a mic. Especially if they speak "dropship-ey" words like in a sci-fi movie. ^_^
I wouldn't say I changed too much from the beginning. Originally I started out as a Caldari Assault. Over time I decided to try and test myself to see how competitive I could be with a cheap suit because I couldn't compete with any proto players. I think I'm doing decent, considering my suits rarely go over 7000 isk.
Then I discovered Scout Suits. I really don't like shooting games. I'm much happier with exploring worlds or customizing characters, but I found that with Scout suits I can run around and be sneaky. Which means if I want to join a shoot out I can, but if I also want to run around the mountains, or explore the scenery, or see how far I can go past the enemy redline to see what's on the other side, I can do so much easier with a Scout Suit. Most of the time I die quickly, but every now and then I find myself alone on a mountain looking at a sunset or a volcano, and I love it.
As a gamer though, I no longer care about trophies. ^_^

I don't suck at shooting anymore like before. I'm not getting positive every match but I don't just spray like before. |
