[This is a Learning Coalition finding and research page. Everything here was found by the Learning Coalition through testing in-game mechanics and statistics. Below is the information we've gathered on the specific material mentioned in the title above. This is not a guide, as much as it is showing our research to the new players of the community, although there are plenty of mechanics and statistics that will be explained in the process of this research.]
Alright. LAV Attack Squads, the stuff you should and shouldn't do, what works best for what situation, what doesn't, and who you should keep in the squad. Below is research that has been and is currently being tested by our students and faculty. We are nowhere near completion, and still have a lot to discover and work out, but so far, we're doing fairly well. TABLE OF CONTENTS
= Anti-Infantry ---- Vehicle Fitting ---- Squad Members ---- Tactics ---- Review = Anti-Vehicle --- Vehicle Fitting --- Squad Members --- Tactics --- Review
ANTI-INFANTRY Vehicle anti-infantry, as well all know (from the tanks) is pretty effective. It is, however, less effective when in an LAV. Primarily because the driver and gunner need to coordinate with each other on where to move and what to do. But it can be very effective, with the right tools and coordination, as well as some semi-decent driving skills. Vehicle Fitting The fitting I used for the anti-infantry testing is below. This is not a required fitting, but is here so you know what exactly the circumstances are. - Methana -- 1x MILITIA 60mm Armor Plate -- 1x MILITIA Blaster Ammunition Capacity -- 1x MILITIA Blaster Damage Modifier -- 1x 20GJ Standard Blaster Turret I don't have many skills into vehicles. Most of this stuff is pretty obvious as to why I put it there, so I'm not going to explain. Basically I wanted to increase durability and increase the effectiveness of our turret, so we could kill more things. Squad Members For the first test (and so far the only test), I had the following squad members. - legit nonspy name - ishtellian (I have no idea if I got his name correct, will double-check later) It's good to have your gunner running Sentinel. They have more HP than any other suit, can tank more damage, and can carry heavy weapons, in case your passenger fails to do a job (such as killing someone). legit nonspy name was our Sentinel, as he had a couple point in gunning and Blaster Proficiency.
It's also good to have any kind of passenger. Whether it be a Logi, or a Scout, or an Assault, it doesn't matter. A second heavy isn't really needed, so I suggest having an Assault. They're very combat efficient, mobile, and can fit a Codebreaker or two without seriously effecting their role as the passenger. ishtellian was our passenger, as he had the second-most point in infantry, and was the most effective infantry that WASN'T driving. He ran a Scout with an SMG, and a Codebreaker. Codebreakers are pretty useful here, as they increase hack speed, allowing you to rush in, let the hacker do his job, while you and your gunner defend him. Tactics First, the map, the map was Border Gulch, an excellent map for LAVs. That's the first bit of luck we had. () This map is good because there are plenty of roads, turns and places to run to, as well as the big pit in the middle, which I'll get to in a second. ---On this map, speed is a pretty useful thing. Being able to turn and weave through all the obstacles and roads is almost required, and definitely required if you have any AV or tanks on the enemy team (Or sometimes your team).
---Using the roads and the pit for escaping any sticky situation is a VERY good thing to do. Multiple times, we ran away from tanks and installations by hiding in that pit. It also has a road to almost every place on the map, so if we ever wanted to get somewhere without passing through hazardous territory, we could go into the pit to get there. This actually helped us get back to our spawn point, so we could do the required maintenance on our vehicle (resupply and repair).
---Wide open areas are a thing on this map, so you can sometimes find little bits of food to eat! Multiple times, we found a scout or an assault just roaming around the pit or the roads, and they quickly became nothing but a lot of tiny pieces of meat. Upon realizing this, I've concluded that on Border Gulch, for an LAV squad, the pit is like a farm. If anything, ANYTHING heads into that pit, they get killed. Of course, vehicles are another story, but I'll get to that. Review Testing isn't finished yet, and we still have a lot of different maps to try, but that alone was a very successful run. Between all of us, we got around 8 kills, 4 of them using our mounted turret. The LAV only exploded a maximum of 2 times, because there was a tank that liked to ram into us. #sadface Here's a list of fun things that happened (And general things we've discovered). -LAV fighting in the pit. We went up against another LAV driver and gunner while doing this, and we often got into fights with eachother, even managing to kill their gunner once, and almost killing the driver another time. We've also learned that in an LAV fight, a Blaster doesn't do enough damage to really change anything. There's a certain threshold of damage, at which point shields stop regenerating. Anything under that threshold (Most small arms and small blaster turrets) doesn't scratch the shield regen. What ended up happening was, we got in this LAV fight, and they would rep shields faster than we could deplete it. Not great, but we'll be doing more testing on this later on. (Continued in next post because Character Limit)

I'd never sell my PS3. I think I might be the only one that didn't buy a PS3 specifically for DUST. I still have plenty of other games. :/

We're going to check out Small Railguns for our AV LAV Attack Squad. I plan on putting together a AV and AI squad. One runs an AV LAV, the other runs AI. And then we compare WP count. I'd prefer Border Gulch again, because it's the perfect map for LAVs.

First, Bojo, Railguns have a +10% damage bonus VS. vehicle and installation targets, which is one of the reasons they're the most used type of turret (ONE of the reasons). Resistances may not affect missiles, but they also don't apply to Railguns AND there's a damage bonus.
-Not skilling too far into LAVs. I got the Baloch ONLY because it had more slots. -Couldn't fit a repper at all, but next time I have time, I'll look at it.
Also, McBob didn't really talk me into it as much as I thought it was a good idea. I'm tired of the standard DUST player's mindset. I don't want to spend hours and hours perfecting existing roles, I want to create new ones. Along with this, the College will also be doing Long-Range Bombardment on enemy (stationary) defenses using Plasma Cannons, and Long-Range Infantry Bombardment with Mass Derpers. Also going to be doing a dropship team, and generally more vehicle tactics and roles are going to be researched/created, as I feel like vehicles are severely underused (besides tanks).

Snow, if you don't mind un-quoting the long part of that quote, that'd be excellent.

Haha, I'm not a much better driver than you are. Hell, my L0TIS friend, Sleepy Shadow, won't even get in the vehicle if I'm in the driver's seat. I have to switch to the passenger's or gunner's seat. :(

Noooo I didn't get your LAV stuck. It did that by itself. (For future reference, in the time it took you to hack, I had grabbed your LAV, driven it around the entire map, and then hit a bump and fell down that hill and then it got stuck. I got startled by a tank... :P)
And yup, I'm going to look at getting a Hardener on there, but at the moment my PS3 situation is a little bit not great. Tomorrow, my internet is being all patched up, so I shouldn't have any more connection issues, and I can play DUST no problem. I'm probably going to wait for 1.8 to hit though. :P
Now, give me a like so that I can have 1200 likes. :D
