I'm still new at this whole "Faction Warfare" thing, so I'm going to ask a Noob question, if no one objects. And, even if they do object, I suppose.
Anyway.
I was working for the Caldari this morning when I got killed by one of my comrades-in-arms Lina Lute. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as to why he killed me from a distance of 8 meters...maybe since I had my profile dampener on, he thought I was the enemy. It happens, I suppose.
So, I re-clone up on the MCC, drop out the belly and land next to about 5 or 6 compadres. One of whom happened to be Lina Lute who promptly killed me a second time.
I immediately sent him a message congratulating him on his marksmanship, and suggested he might try using it against the enemy in the future. His response left me a bit puzzled, however. You see, he told me he deliberately killed me twice because I was a sniper.
Now, my question is: is it now considered acceptable behavior to murder your allies because you don't like their combat load-out? That doesn't sound like a good way to win battles to me (and we did indeed lose that mission by a significant number of clones, strangely enough) but again, I'm new at this.
If anyone could clarify this matter, I'd really appreciate it. |

Now, a serious reply. People on the internets do strange things for reasons only they can understand. Maybe their mom didn't hug them enough when they were little, who knows.
Word to the wise though, if you are not familiar with New Eden, a certain level of griefing is actually encouraged by CCP so it will always be around. In its "official" form it usually takes place as scams or some sort of way to gain unseen advantage over the unsuspecting, as opposed to just general asshattery like you describe.

It seems likely that Lina Lute falls into the school of thought that believes most snipers are useless and only contribute to team losses by not capping objectives and the like. Most of us believe all play styles are equally valid, but too many of us have been on teams with 6 snipers. Some people get jaded by this and take it out on any sniper they see, this is why if I decide to snipe in FW, I only run around with my SMG out and only switch to my rifle when I'm in a possible position. In short, as stated above, CCP made the mechanics of this possible, therefore griefing is also a valid play style...sorry. |

This game is full of hateful trolls. Sniping is seen by most as a low risk, ineffective role that is mostly for new players who are taking a break from dying 20 times a match. Since we are randomly placed on teams with no way to organize before battles, it is not generally a good thing when everyone spawns in with a sniper rifle.
Your d-bag teammate was showing you the sad truth of Dust. Most players would rather blame their team, than praise their enemy. |

Sneakiness is the best solution. Keep your sniper rifle hidden until it's time to use it. Switch to your sidearm or your equipment (especially if it's an Active Scanner or Drop Uplinks)

Most snipers and tankers are k/d whores and mainly pad their stats while doing very little to actually help their team. While this is not true for all of them it is true for a lot of them. Red line thales and red line rails mainly only benefit themselves as they can only kill targets of opportunity and they can't hack an objective or support their team when at a distance. And most blaster tankers are too busy mowing down infantry to be bothered to help their team.
Some people truly hate this sad fact and thus team kill as often as they can to make themselves feel better. |

Some advice. Take it for what it's worth.
Always punish TK'ers by pressing Square on the death screen. They get kicked from FW till next down time and lose tons of standings if 1) they get punished 3 times in a match or 2) the damage done to friendlies totals 5,000.
If someone is targeting you specifically, but has only killed you twice, kill them twice to coax out that third kill (and third punish). Run into their line of fire, run into their grenades, set off their REs, run in front of their vehicles, anything to help them deal 5,000 total damage to friendlies. Be careful not to get punished three times in a match yourself or deal over 5,000 damage total to friendlies.
Don't send mail. Attention is a TK'ers wet dream.
People will pass judgment as they will. The poster above is certain that most snipers and tankers are k/d whores, for example. The only thing you can do is play the game in a way you enjoy and punish TK'ers. The only time I would consider not punishing a TK'er is if they were on voice coms with me and apologized. Like if a squad mate I normally run with made an accident.

Because outside of cloning the other team snipers and tankers do very little to actually help win a match. I have been in dozens of games where a team with 4-6 tanks still lose since they never hack an objective, drop uplinks or run logi. And they can't even cover some people hacking since some objectives are inside. They just tank, which basically means they are just getting kills. Snipers can provide Intel and counter snipe, but mainly they just guard their k/d. |

I got killed twice by a guy in FW and I just now figured out why. I thought he was being a dbag but I was setting RE's in a area where our team was occupying. I seldom play FW and didn't think about that until I just read someone say you can kill yourself on your teammates RE. I was the dbag, I just didn't j know it. |

This would be my assessment. Generally the less a person knows, the more confident they are in what they think they know. There are quite a few people in this game without the tactical understanding to lead a 3 man fire team, much less a squad, who have very strong opinions about what other people should or should not be doing.
That being said, we donGÇÖt know the whole story. If a third of your team was sniping and you were not red lined, then I would understand someone team killing a few snipers. Having more than 3 snipers on a 16v16 match becomes a detriment, unless they are marksmen willing to pull out their sidearms and go hack something.

I always TK if I see 5 snipers lining a hill. It's unlikely that they know how many snipers they're with, but it doesn't change the fact that on the first day of 1.7, I combat rifled a Proto G-Logi and Nova Knifed 2 other MLT snipers.

you can troll vehical users of the opposing side if you manage to kill them and steal their vehical, as it still coems up as them when you kill their team with their own(hacked) vehicals meaning alot of rage and 24 hour bans from FW cause of multiple punish vs the newb who got vehical jacked. :P

I knew that killing a hacked vehicles that was brought in by a team mate would count toward the 5000 damage, but I did not realize that getting kills with a hacked vehicle would have the same effect.
They really need to change it so that vehicles change ownership when hacked. Besides, if hacking vehicles let you keep them when the match was over it would add a new income stream.

I had no idea! Thank you for the information, it will come in handy, I'm sure.
Normally I run a counter-sniper routine, but now that I have some good armor I'm getting deeper into the close-quarters battles. It all depends on the map, for me. If I can't get any decent sniping positions, then I go Frontline Scouting, if it looks like I can smoke a few enemy Redliners, I'm all over it.

Welcome to New Eden. This
People will hate snipers for no good reason at all whatsoever so I recommend killing any blueberries who get near you (preferably before they get near you)
I got team killed for flying a dropship, having someone bump into me, that person crashed because they bumped into me. I landed, recalled, and was Team killed. People are effing morons and I would never rely on any blueberry (friendly outside of squad) in FW given that they team kill for the worst/least of motives.
So hide you sniper rifle, and just go out on your own, and monitor your minimap. BTW profile dampeners do not effect friendly radar detection.
