So I've been running around a few maps as of late, and on occasion I would run out of ammo, then check my reserves for Nanohives, only to find them all expired, and the only supply depot available on the map is back inside the base... then I saw a guy using a repair tool and got to thinking... "If a tool without ammo can restore armor, why can't it also work for ammo?"
An ammo replacement tool would be undeniably effective in combat. "Why would anyone ever use a Nanohive then?" You might ask. The obvious answer is that tools can only be used on others, and not yourself so people who expect to run solo would want a Hive over the alternative.
Ammo Tools would have to be separated into different categories, such as Light, and Heavy ammo replacement, but they would be unable to replace the tools or grenades used. So a Light AT would only be capable of restoring light ammo, while a Heavy AT would only be able to restore heavy weaponry etc. Or maybe there could be an "Assist" AT that can restore expendable equipment and grenades, but I think that would be a bit excessive.
The AT would need a cool-down or recharge period after expending a certain amount of ammunition replacement, because a constant stream of ammo would be undeniably overpowered... Or they could house an incredibly large supply of "Nanite Clusters" and simply take a lot longer to deplete their reserves than a Hive would, thereby making the trips back to the supply depot seem more worthwhile.
It could also go horribly wrong, however, and mess up all the dynamics of the current system. :/ but I wanted to put this idea forward.

Maybe a "Support Tool" that Low REPAIR Armor but also give Ammo. (The 1.8 repair and a 2.5%/5%/7.5% ammo per sec.)
And a "Defensive Tool" that creates temporal Shield/Armor For Players.
When you're using it it increase the Max Armor/Shield of the Target on a third Hp Bar called "Protective" Aim with the Tool to increase Shield of the Target. Shoot with the Tool to increase the Armor of the Target.
Shield Third Bar is the first bar hitted by ennemies damage. Armor Third bar is affected after the shield is depleted.
If you stop using the Tool the Target will lose the "Armor/Shield" bar 20% per second (The Third bar diseapear after 5sec).
The Amount of Hp of the Third Hp bar is affected by the Target player and the Tool Level.
If Shield. STD/ADV/PRO : 80%/100%/120% of the Shield Regen of the target Per sec. Max Hp of the Third Bar (Shield) : 25%/50%/75% of the Shield ehp of the Target.
If Armor. STD/ADV/PRO 5%/7.5%/10% of the Armor ehp of the target per second. Max Hp of the Third bar (Armor) : 25%/50%/75% of the Armor ehp of the target.
Repair tool will be better to REPAIR units and give them some ammo (still way less useful than Nanohives.).
While "Protective Tool" will be better for protecting teamates. And it makes the "Shield Tanker" able to be repaired by Logi. Making Combo Logi/Heavy possible with Shield Heavies.

just use hives, and if you run out of those you should probably go to the depot, if they wanted infinite ammo to be a thing it would have already been a thing

your onto a decent idea here. easy way to balance it would be a low and slow resupply rate that makes hives that much better. I would like to see deployable scanners though as a reverse direction from resupply tools.
