I'm sorry if this is going to come off as a stupid question, but I was playing this afternoon and I kept seeing on text saying "You Have Been Scanned". I didn't pay too much mind to it but I assumed it meant someone scanned me and knows where I'm at in the map. Okay no problem. I saw a YouTube video (as you can see I'm kind of obsessed). Then I saw a dude use what I think is a "scanner"? Or if it has another name. My question is. What is the item and skill I need to use this scanner and can I use it in any drop suit or does it have to be a Scout Drop suit?
Also, I was wondering if dropouts work the same way that ships do in Eve Online? but so some drop suits give bonuses to some other weapons or equipment than others? |

For an ACTIVE SCANNER you need skill on the ACTIVE SCANNER which is in the drop suit upgrades section and you just need it to be level on to have one (if there are no militia versions). If you want you can upgrade it a lot but only if you want to be a pro scout or something. This tool is extremely useful for me and I recommend using one. You can use the tool on any suit with an equipment slot and you don't have to be a Scout. But be careful if the person with the scanner is a Scout I can't answer you EVE question since I don't play it. But when you are upgrading your skill on a specific suit for example Logistics then the skill boost will only help that suit from that faction so Mimatar Logistics skill will only help a Mimatar Logistics suit. Don't feel bad about asking this question, that is what the forums are for.
"A noob is someone who is inexperienced: the title should be worn with pride. After all; the only people who were never a noob at some point were those who never bothered to learn anything at all!" ~ I don't know if any one ever said it, but I like the quote wear it with PRIDE!!!! |

Hahaha! That's awsome I'll take that lol
Well, just to explain a little. in Eve Online they'll be ships that give bonuses to things you fit it with.
So for an example... you have an Frigate which is a class of ships on Eve Online. Same way each Faction or Race has Drop Suits.. well instead of Mercs they have Capsuleteers. Each Capsuleteer has like a Minmatar Slasher which is a Frigate ship. Well each of these ships have specific roles that have bonuses to stats. So like (and I could be wrong) A Slasher could give a bonus to Scanning for exploration. While a Rifter Frigate Ship will give bonuses to Small Artellery. I'm a noob at both so don't take those exact examples as to what those ships are for.
So I was wondering for an example if certain drop suitt like maybe a light drop suit for a Minmatar has a bonus to like light weapons or something like that. Do Scout drop Suits give scanning example a 5% boost on stats...
Thats what I meant.
It's fun exploring this knowledge though which is why I love games deep like this. Thanks for the information man! |

The suits themselves do not give a bonus. The skills required to use them, however, do.

You generally get a 2-3% effectiveness per level for equipment
There are race/suit specific bonuses, I can't remember what they are off the top of my head you'll have to check in the skill tree under (ermm what's it called) dropsuit command? maybe?... something like that, it's at the top of your list anyway lol

Yeah, each dropsuit has a base stat bonus that is usually set by race and frame (heavy/light/etc). 1.8 is going to be the big change for that, as some of the normal bonuses are changing. For instance, Minmatar Logisticis used to have a bonus to hacking. It is now "rumored" that it will change to bonus to rep tools. So those bonuses will become more apparent in 1.8.
Were I you, I would withhold any SP into suits and focus on core skills for now. Core skills help you no matter what your suit is and is often neglected by many a new player when its going to be the most beneficial for you down the road. Skill into Armor/Shield/Electronics/etc first.
Also, for scanner, as they said, it doesn't matter the suit but at the very minimum, I would go for lvl 3 scanner if you really want it. lvl 3 is enough to catch a good majority of players except the really good dampened scouts. Otherwise, with just a militia and with everyone paranoid about being scanned, its likely you'll only end up picking up heavies on the map.

Yeah I have to be honest. I think I'm going to Terminate this character because I screwed up by dropping all my starting SP into DropSuit Command... only realizing that the only thing that does is.. open up Heavy Dropsuits, which doesn't really match my playstyle. I started watching some videos and started using the Triangle button more often now. So now its making more sense to me. Thank you all for the answers, they were very helpful, especially now since you answered the most important suggestion yet... which is the core skills. I didn't realize how important that was so I'm probably going to start a new character and keep that in mind because I die WAAAYYYY too quick. lol |

Core skills are your friend. They give your Dropsuit a greater base armor, a greater base shield and an increase to the amount of PG/CPU you have on your suit. All of these things only help, no matter your role. This also keeps your isk cost low as you will have enough PG/CPU left to usually fit 1/2 proto eq or weapon on an ADV suit if you wanted.

I agree, core skill is super important to bring up your armor and shields. I think armor is better, but that is my opinion. |
