So I've been ******* around with the Plasma Cannon lately and have been liking is as a joke weapon. It clears objectives and mixed with Flux grenades wrecks the unsuspecting shield tank. However outside of these very specific applications it's pretty worthless. So I was thinking of ways to improve it, whether through a buff or changing it entirely.
Option A. Increase the mag size. Currently it is a single shot weapon. 0.6 sec to charge and then another 3.6 (close?) secs to reload. That is a whole 4.2 secs between shots. This doesn't seem terrible compared to the forge gun, however the forge gun can hold it's charge indefinitely (other than assault) and fires in a straight line with much greater distance. The plasma cannon arcs terribly and flies very slowly, making each shot a semi educated guess. By increasing the mag size to say 3, you still have a gap between shots but it allows you to make better estimations on shots and maybe actually apply damage with it.
Option 2. Change how it applies damage entirely. It is a gallente weapon, why not make it really short range, but fire in a straight trajectory, with some increased speed. This will result in more accurate application of damage, but still have some risk involved in the use of it.
Option III. Again change how it applies damage. Make it short range but much like a shotgun (I some someone post an idea like this somewhere on the forum). Obviously the damage would need to be changed, it could still be AV levels of damage but massively decreasing the range, making it a heavy weapon, adding a modifier vs infantry, or simply have only the center of the shot do AV level damage could keep it from going out of control.
Thoughts?

Sorry... but no. Plasma cannon is my favourite weapon, and though I don't use it anymore, these changes won't make me pick it up again. It's very unique and needs to retain its uniqueness. I feel they just need to give it a damage buff and all is good (currently you need to stack 3 complex damage mods for it to be viable). I used to think they also need to tier it better, but I will hold that opinion as I don't have access to the proto.
But yeah, I love the slow, single fire, arcing trajectory of the plasma cannon. It's an amazing weapon that needs a bit of love.
