Why are they not the most armor tanked of all the heavies? Is this related to Eve? I thought gallente were armor gods, caldari were shield gods, minmatar were speed gods, and amarr were a mixture of both.
What bonus do I get going into the gallente heavy then the amarr?

Gallente - Speedy, uses regenerative armor to get in blaster range
Caldari - Slow shield boats with long-range missiles / rails
Amarr - Holy mother of God armor tanking with lasers that can reach all ranges (provided you use the right ammo)
Minmatar - Wild card tanking (mixture of speed and armor / shield)

Its related to Eve. In Eve the Amarr are the true armor tankers while the gal have a faster armor regain. So it like

 Amarr- high HP and resistance
Gallente- medium HP and high armor regain

So I either have the choice of going back into Amarr sentinels, which I really don't want to do, or I put up with a slightly faster heavy suit? I just wanted to be a super tank point defense heavy.

Whatever game you've been playing definitely isn't Eve, or making a decent amarr ship fit must be hard work for you.

Amarr are armor bricks while the Gallente are armor skirmishers.

Their blasters having the shortest range in the game means that they need to get up close and personal, something you can't do when stacking plates. So, with skirmishing meaning ducking in and out of engagements, the Gallente focus more on repping their armor back and hitting hard with the highest DPS.

CCP is bringing the racial paradigms in DUST more in line with the original paradigms from EVE.

Suit design for the gallente heavy should be flexible enough for you to be successful as a heavy tanked point defense if you wish.

I guess I do get to keep the 4 low (
)but also the 1 high slots( ). So it is sorta like I never changed suits, only that I have a cool looking newer suit! Also planning on going into adv minmatar heavy suits or that extra speed so there's that. All in all I guess I'm fine with the way it looks, even tho I am slightly sad.

The Gal suit has more lows so can fit 4 complex armor plates meaning it can eak out just a bit more armor HP than the Amarr sentinal. Tho personaly I would do 3x plates 1x repper

If we originally had it like this, players wouldn't be in the predicament they are now lol. Imo, Gallente mercenaries NEVER worked well as immobile armor tankers. They need a mix between mobility, armor, and repair for their preferred handling of warfare. The Amarr weren't built correctly either...A shield and armor tanking lol. They were always meant to be the "big bad" of armor tankers, even their suits are designed to look bulkier than the rest(Gallente are very slim in comparison).

I will direct you to the two links in my signature.

The Amarr/Gallente Sentinel Dynamic is an interesting one.

Amarr have more base armor, but less low slots and resistance bonuses that span across armor and shields.

Gallente have less base armor, more shields, but the most low slots as well as both resistance bonuses supporting the armor.

How I would play them is the Amarr Sentinel is a more balanced tank, allowing for some hybrid tanking, but would probably be best stacking armor plates and damage mods to give more damage output than the Gallente heavy but being very dependent on logistics for support.

The Gallente have a more even spread of HP, but with 4 low slots they can either buffer tank with logi support, or put together a full repair fit paired with decent shields allows them to operate alone for longer. They will however suffer from the lowest damage output of all of the sentinels.

Then of course I can't ignore the possibility for speed heavies...but that's a different discussion altogether.
