Fox, I'd actually almost propose MAVs take on the role many HAVs are used for now. Solo attack vehicles. Because HAVs should really be three-person vehicles, and shouldn't really be engaging infantry. That's a better fit for MAVs. And a troop transport ground vehicle would probably almost always be inferior to a dropship.

LAVGÇÖs are already better than dropships for transport in many cases unless you have a very skilled dropship pilot. Ground transport will not replace air transport for speed and efficiency, but it is a lot more accessible and reliable if you donGÇÖt have an experienced dropship pilot in your squad.
Besides the pictures we have seen of MAVGÇÖs make them about the size of a troop transport and show two turrets.

Interesting perspective, Fox. I've always felt air transport was superior due to both it's speed and ability to traverse rough terrain without a problem. LAV travel is only expedient if you're following roads, which causes longer routes on it's own. And of course, you have far less options on where you offload people. And on top of that, LAVs are generally easier to destroy, even if they could carry a full squad.
But perhaps there is room for both functionalities in the class. After all, assault/logistics dropship types exist. So perhaps both variants of MAV should exist as well.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

This is all true, yet with extensive experience getting squads from one place to another quickly I have found that calling in LAVGÇÖs is something that any squad can do, while a hot landing and pickup in the middle of a battle is something only the best dropship pilots can handle.
Remember, we are not just talking about the beginning of a match where everyone can pile on the Dropship while it is sitting behind the Red line, and then get dropped off at the first objective, or dropping off someone with uplinks on top of a tower. We are talking about quickly getting an entire squad from one objective to another before the other team has time to realize that you have left the first objective.
I use LAVGÇÖs extensively, particularly on my Heavy. You fit some extra tank to be able to survive a few hits by AV. You keep moving. You use the roads, or pick the path of least resistance through rugate terrain. When you arrive at your objective, you either hide your LAV, recall it, or abandon it. In the time it takes an inexperienced pilot to land a dropship for pickup, I can cross the map and reach the objective using a LAV.
Land transport will never replace a dropship with an exceptional pilot, but exceptional pilots are not that common. Anyone can drive a truck. (Maybe not well, but well enough to get from A to B.)

Let me talk in a general sense about what I consider when selecting the best candidates.
First I am expecting that if CCP decides there will be 6 people on the council (for instance), then I expect to be able to vote for six people, because to get the council that we want we need to vote for the council we want, and not just for the one guy we like best. Then the 6 people who end up on the council will be the 6 people that the most people thought should be on the council.
I feel it is important to have experts on the council to speak to the areas of the game were we expect to see a large development push in the next year or so. So I will be sure to vote for at least one top level PC player to provide feedback on PC 2.0, and at least one person who has worked extensively on the new player experience. If a candidate stands out as having a better understanding of how to make an effective MMO with realistic ideas on how to setup better social structures, I might lean that candidateGÇÖs way a bit as well. Although I am hoping for PVE in the next year or so, I probably wonGÇÖt worry about picking a council member with PVE (Raid) experience until CCP is ready to iterate on their fist (probably limited) introduction of PVE (so probably when voting for CMP2 or CPM3).
Otherwise I will be looking for candidates that have a wide range of experience so that they can provide feedback to CCP on a wide range of subjects. Having a few Generalists on the council will help to provide a balanced perspective. I will be trying to make sure that all the major play styles have at least someone on the council that understand and can represent them. I would not normally vote for someone pushing the agenda of a single suit type, but if I realized that none of the candidates I was considering had experience with a particular suit type, then I might try to find someone to cover that base.
As far as the ideas presented by the candidates, I am more interested in the fact that they have ideas, with specific attention to whether or not those ideas are well thought out and sound realistic, than I am in the specifics of their ideas. CCP drives the agenda, and the CPM provides them with feedback. While CPM members may sometimes manage to convince CCP to examine one of their ideas, a far more common scenario is for CCP to come up with a crazy idea which changes the game and look to the CPM to come up with a response. A CPM member must have the ability to drop their old ideas every time CCP comes up with a new scenario, and to come up with new ideas that fit that scenario. They must also have a good enough understanding of the mechanics of the game to be able to spot flaws in such new scenarios, and the creativity to suggest fixes or alternatives.
Finally I will be looking for CPM candidates that work well with others. If someone has a tendency to get peopleGÇÖs backs up, how can I expect them to work effectively with CCP? An adversarial relationship between members of the Council or between the CPM and CCP will get us nowhere. Part of this will be looking at how the candidates handle disagreements. Can they agree to disagree? Once they take a position on a subject, are they open to shifting that position due to logic and reason, or do they stubbornly cling to their original idea? I will also be looking for at lest a few candidates who have exceptional communication abilities who can handle the presentation of information to the community.

Well said. The CPMs effectiveness and how serious both CCP and the community takes them is an expression of the whole group and not a single individual member.
I strongly believe having a broad range of experience to see and account for different perspectives. One thing I would like from CPM1 that is noticeable different than CPM0 is having the whole council active in engaging the community. Some will be more active than others and RL takes precedent - no worries with that. My point is that if we take the approach of having a broad based CPM when some of them don't engage CCP or the community for Long stretches or seemingly ever you lose the value that member brought and the system is weaker.
I think IWS and to a lesser degree some of the others have done an admirable job of staying involved and communicating with BOTH CCP and the community. If you aren't actively engaging both sides then your role as a linkage or communications platform is inherently non-functional.

I think we have gotten to the point now where the number of candidates who I would like to see on the CPM has gotten larger than the number of positions there are likely to be on CPM1. So I wanted to make a comment on that.
If you are truly committed to DUST enough to warrant a spot on the CPM, then I expect that you will still be here in 2015 whether you make the council this year or not. In the election for CPM2 the fact that you campaigned for CPM1 will show your long term commitment to the game. Your actions between elections will likely say a lot as well. You can do a lot for the game as a private citizen of New Eden.
For those who don't make it on the council, show us what you can do, and run again next year.

I would be happy to squad with anyone who wants to squad with me. I donGÇÖt have a very predictable play schedule though.
The only time I am on predictably is in the hour before downtime on week days, as I play before going to work in the morning, and since I am on Atlantic time, that puts my morning before Down Time playing with all the Australians.
I may be able to get on early US prime time (late EU time) if it is prearranged.
Of course I may be up late playing Saturday because Zion Shad lives on the West Coasts and records his podcast at an ungodly hour. Last time it was midnight my time when he started.
Edit: When I am on you can find me in Learning Coalition chat. I usually play Crash Gaden. You will often see my EVE character Renier Gaden in there too.

Gaming Background: Overall I have a wide range of gaming experience and love a wide range of genres and themes. I got started back on Super Mario for the NES when it first game out and the addiction has just gotten progressively worse over the years. However my love for theory-crafting didnGÇÖt come until I heard about Dust and started playing EVE. I think it really exploded once I got into the Dust beta and started thinking about how the players could help shape a game of this magnitude.
