Except would you really be falling? Or just....moving? Would you be flying? Maybe you'd just be staying still.

Maybe if you jump out of the tank before you suicide then it never really dies and it's still in your inventory at the end of the match

I get this at least once a week still and had it yesterday. I pop all enemy tanks, check map for more, notice my tank moving vertically down the map, get out, it's upside down falling. If I get out, I can fall for full minutes before dieing.
