Hello, All!
My name is Charlotte O'Dell and I like tanks. Always have. Whether they were getting 2HK'd by forges or hitting with over 5000 DPS, they've always been my love.
The name of the game has changed through the builds for tanks:
Chromosome: Stack as many damage mods as possible on a Sagaris or as many hardeners on a Surya
Uprising (1.0-1.6): Madrugars and broken heavy reps
Uprising 1.7: Mobility and Hardeners
Still, while some modules, hulls, and turrets fall in and out of favor: 1 thing remains the same: play like a scout. Let me elaborate:
Even though you may be able to tank upwards of 10 shots from a particle cannon, does not mean you should. Attack from behind with the highest DPS weapon you may fit and pray they don't have a friend behind you.
Use your map to find tanks.
If they see you first, run right over them like a monster truck, spin around, and stack away from the end of their turret. The best way to do that is to be as close as possible from their tank while kiting it (speed tanking is a thing).
Here is a list of useless modules that no veteran tanker ever uses:
Armor plates, shield extenders, shield boosters.
"But Charlotte, those increase my chances of survival."
WRONG! They allow you to think you can run around with your head up your ass, but when it comes time to square up with a real tanker, the small bonuses they give will count for nothing. For instance, the best shield extender gives the EHP equivilant of a mlt 80gj rail's alpha and a particle cannon will laugh at a complex 120mm. Hardeners are key for brawls!
When you can count of keeping some distance and know you will never be spotted first, damage mods are friendly. however, the offense they give you does not match the defensive power of a hardener when 2 tanks smash eachother head to head.
A nitros is a very magical module. It works to get you out of a fight, kite an enemy tank, and sneak up on an enemy tank. It also has a recharge that matches anything out there. Keep in mind that if you dont have a keyboard, it isn't worth fitting bc you will never reach your full speed in turns which is where it really shines.
Scanners are more of an armor tank thing and only useful for infantry stomping (boring) and ammo expansions are a shield tank thing. They're nice if you're an idiot who never checks his ammo, but useless if you pay attention. After all, it only takes a few seconds to bring down a new tank.
Turrets:
Rail = best turret IMO. It does everything from ohking heavies, brawling with ion cannons, and sniping. Takes more work to be useful in CQC than a blaster but its DPS is awesome.
Missiles are funky fresh and I wont pretend to know what im talking about except that xt-201's with a complex damage mod make even hardened gunlogis think twice.
Blasters are for noobs. Don't be a noob blaster scrub.
Hulls:
Madrugars are easier to learn because they're less high maintenance, but mark my words: the best madrugar pilot will never win against the best Gunlogi pilot bc the tanks are not designed for the same things. Maddies are infantry stompers and gunlogis kill everything that doesn't walk on two legs....and also infantry. My advice is take the time to learn how to tank and use gunlogis and railguns - NOT IN THE REDLINE. You have no idea what you are missing when you hide and you are far deadlier up in their faces than 500m away in your ***** wagon.

Don't know about char but I run dual hardeners and a damage mod with a Particle Cannon, lows are what ever I can best fit. Very resist dependent fit so when you go into cool down your vulnerable but when active you can dominate most tank battles.

Damage mods, IMO, are only useful for smashing redljne tanks. Using a nitros allows you to NOT get hit. It is more beneficial than a DMG mod. It allows me the tactical flexibility to brawl with ion cannon madrugars and win.
My PC fit: Gunlogi
80gj Particle Cannon
Complex shield hardener x 2 Complex Nitrous/Fuel Injector
120mm Plate Complex Rail gun Expansion
I have yet to find a tank that can dominate me except psychotic shooter who is undeniably best blaster of all time and he only matches me.

I'll try it I haven't done some kiting in a while though it's pretty easy to do. Though it is fun to laugh at Kujo as he shoots my tank and then insta pop him he went 0-2 that game .

I seem to have the fitting idea down, but what about module activation?
I've been running a sica with one hardener and one damage mod, using a standard railgun, and my lows are a armor hardener and a heavy armor repair.
My strategy so far is to be sneaky and when I find a tank, activate both mods and circle the tank doing my best to take them down. But in case things go bad I use my armor hardener to keep me alive as I'm running away. It seems to work good so far, but you say to go with two hardeners.
So when do you use them? Do you always keep one in reserve and run the other one as much as possible? So half the time when you run into a tank you're double hardened?

Considering you are just trying to get rid of a tank with a throw away fit and you are not likely to have multiple solid tanks/tankers go double dmg mod use the over view map get behind them and you should pop them in 3-4 shots if timed properly so I would go pure DPS not giving them a an opportunity to react. All in all your use of the over view map + positioning + timing > The "BEST" fit

Hardeners for close range Damage mods for long range.
Generally, for every 200m that you plan to engage an enemy, put on one damage mod.
Activate all hardeners at once if you have more than one. Retreat before they run out. Reengage only when fresh. Activate at the last second possible. Its a good tactic to fire an single round at an enemy tank and force him to run gardeners. About 75% through his hardener duration, begin the engagement. Only activate once he has decided to return fire, but before he does fire; watch his turret. When your hardeners are dry, pretend they are not, when they are ready, act as if they are dry. Deception is the key to tank on tank combat. You want to know everything about them and them to know nothing about you.
Most tankers in specific builds will engage in one manner with it. Find the counter to it, and allow them to think it will give them victory; then exploit it- a rail tanker must feel he owns the battlefield if he will leave the redline. A nrawler must feel he can close the distance. A missile will believe he can out DPS you before you can to him. All of this must be understood so that even counters to your build put themselves in their weakest possible state so you may exploit it.

I've been rage quitting a lot lately...getting frustrated with Dust in general. Constant lag. Rail gun not shooting most matches. Glitches RDVs. If I want to run infantry my team gets tank stomped.
Ugh...

Ugh... Ya I feel you there are those nights where it seems no matter what you run you seem to get your A** handed to you this one AE guy tried to rail me twice so I killed him twice then he comes out of nowhere with an ION Cannon with my mods down and kills me. I pull out my damage modded XT-201 get behind him unload and half my missiles blow up before reaching him the friendly tank he just killed must have stopped my missiles even though the model faded I almost threw my controller out the window.
