railgun has bullet dropoff and travel time it requires you to lead and that lead increases over distance 100% realistically
sniping has no bullet drop off no bullet travel time and doesnt require you to lead at all...all it requires is for you to pull the trigger and for the target ridicule to be red when you do and pop death. sniping in dust requires 0 skill compared to rail gun sniping..so why cant YOU CCP
apply the same realistic mechanics you applied to rail gun projectile travel to sniper projectile travel and watch all the scrubby snipers get weeded out..
i dont think i have ever run into a game with less realism when applied to sniping than dust.
i personally would be thrilled if the role of sniper in dust actually required a modicum of the skill i does in real life

Except that it's the rail guns that are unrealistic. These things are travelling at several times the speed of sound over short distances (less than one kilometer), so bullet drop or needing to lead anything (unless it was going super fast) would be so slight as to be nigh-existant.
It's amusing to see you get so twisted up over something you have completely backwards.

well then make the sniper have more base damage because it will be pretty hard to hit a moving target with bullet dropoff.

Maybe when they release the other racial snipers they could implement more focused skill levels:
Amarr - No bullet velocity or drop (Lasers = light speed): moderate damage. Caldari - High bullet velocity & no bullet drop: low damage. Gallente - Slow bullet velocity & moderate bullet drop: very high damage. Minmatar - High bullet velocity & high bullet drop: very high damage
Maybe those stats need some fiddling but you get the idea.

At 2 - 2.5 km/s bullet drop and wind will have very little effect on a tiny, streamlined projectile. Especially over the distances we're talking about on a Dust map. Arx Ardashir is right, it's not the sniper rifles that are wrong. It's the railguns.
As to needing no skill to be a sniper in Dust, that's only true if your shooting at stationary or completely stupid targets who don't evade at all as they're running. Otherwise you do have to anticipate the target, especially if you're trying to actually kill them rather than just bring down their shield as that reduces what you're having to aim at to their head, which is often only a couple of pixels at best, the dot in the scope is usually much bigger than this.
And even if you do get it lined up and have the sight turn red (indicating that you're aiming directly at a target) a large percentage of the time, the system decides you didn't hit them at all and your shot has no effect. I've had that against stationary targets out in the open.
With a rail rifle, you're at much closer range with a much bigger target and a faster rate of fire.
Sniper rifles are just fine apart from the hit detection. Rail rifles should have bullet drop and having to lead the target removed.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this. I'd suggest basic scope on the basic sniper rifles, one level zoom on the advanced and a closer zoom and/or variable zoom on the prototypes.
Plus the improved hit detection I suggested in my previous post.

he didnt say that sniping wasnt easy..and he didnt say that it didnt need to be made harder..he discounted how i suggested they do that from my observations of using rail. im not really an arguer this is my idea..your all welcome to your own opinions and i enjoy reading them when you comment on a thread of mine
regardless of what it is my argument is valid that sniping in dust is incredibly easy and should be made harder he can discount my idea on making it like rail personally i dont snipe much but i rail snipe allot i find that dust snipers to be easy and boring even CoD has better sniping..weather its adding breath bullet drop off leading whatever its inarguable that sniping in dust needs to be made harder.
everyones alloted an opinion and tbh i am having way to much fun atm in dust to spoil it arguing over how sniping should be made harder.

Fine with me. I try to lead all the time and usually fire to soon due to expecting bullet drop. There seems very little time when the reticle goes red anyway that it is more confusing.
Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!
