Didn't have a squad so I was flying solo. First game Tried going ground cause of map then got killed by a python and decided to fly. dropship almost got blown up by a rain gun when under the MCC. Made it out thanks to a tower, climbed to height and went looking around their redline. Didn't see any but did see two friendly tanks near where the shot came from so I went looking for trouble.
Found an incubus being engaged by a friendly one. Helped make him crash. Then found the python and engaged, I chased him for a bit, got his shields down but he managed to evade enough to regen his shields kept chasing until he made a mistake and crashed into a building, he started shooting me with his at so I circled around and killed him. He then called a rail tank (his name was tanker tank or something) almost got him in the red but he went too deep and I had to get out of the red. Sat atop a large mountain in the red.......anyway found a couple places and kept out of sight With some balls to the wall flying and maneuvers, got some kills. 145 isk pay out.
Second game Shortly after take off I encounter three tanks, two blaster one rail, the rail barley missed me and I got above him. He hit is hardener and ran for the long bridge to delta, I in turn hjt my hardener and tried punching through his shields. Couldn't do it on the time I had so I broke off when hardener hit cool down and flew off to watch and wait. Hardener cooled down and dove at delta to reengage. Some av must have hit him because his shields were down, got him in 4 well placed shots. Then hit the hardener and ab to clear the blaster tanks. Climbed to height and flew to their redline. My gut feeling was right, he went to go call another rail tank, I waited patiently to see if he would come out of the red, he did, however one of the blaster tanks had gone back near him and I wanted to see what he would do. He re called and called in a rail tank. Then sat in the red waiting for me, yes it was a redline bait trap. So I waited, and waited , and waited then the other tank must have spotted me because he started rolling back into the red. So I hit hardener and dove hard while barrel rolling towards a cliff to break Los. Went to restoke then back to observe. Waited some more then found a place at be that blocked Los and might let me do something, killed two or three people then boom rail shot from no where instant kill. The match ended shortly after, 110isk payout.
Typical, turned off dust and am going to sleep. This is the typical routine of a dropship pilot, get shot down for trying, in one shot, by something hundreads of thousands of isk cheaper than you. I hope rails get a hot fix, my wallet is hurting. Stoked for 1.8 dropsuits tho! I hope pilot dropsuits come with 1.9! Anyway have a taste of the life of a pilot. There was a lot of really crazy flying, but I left those parts out, this turned out longer than I wanted. |

I usually restrict myself to flying when I find maps that support it (Fracture Road is pretty much the best map for a Dropship; Iron Delta is ok if you have HAV support/remove all the redline installations; Spine Crescent can be ok; Orbital Artillery and Biomass Outpost are pretty good for Dropships, while Gallente Research/Communications are pretty bad due to how enclosed/incredibly open they are respectively) and normally run on the ground when I am on maps that are bad for Dropships.
I'll sometimes bring them out when I'm feeling risky, or if I have HAV support and/or take three-quarters of the battle removing redline installations with a railgun HAV. It's been said to death, but it's the redline that hurts the most. Getting tagged by a railgun is fine if we're allowed to retaliate using our strengths. |
