Whats the point of range and precision modules if you can use one equipment that does both for you that recharges faster than it's duration? you have to pay double the SP if you want precision and range modules. The range doesn't go every far and the precision isn't better so neither is better than the scanner, there has to be a fix either range or precision has to be better than the scanner since it can do both at the same time and one equipment out of 5 is an easy option to pick since it's wall hack to increase you're "survivability" so that you can't even be touched.
Assassination is my thing.

I'm gonna give you that. Those things confuse me as well. They made sense when we had that shared team radar (Which was even more broken than the scanners everyone has been complaining about). But now they seem kinda meh.

SImple fix: Tie it to suit precision, and use the range mods as enhancers for both.

I used passive scans over actives due to the fact that sneaking is better when targets are lazy and non alerted vs the freak out people do when they get the scan message.

That's an equipment slot I could be using for R-9 Uplinks and getting my team back in the flow.
If I do a quick spin, similar to the Active Scanner spin, I can see pretty much everything the scanner sees - for a flickering moment, anyways.
Passive scanning has its drawbacks, can't lie, but it's not always the best thing to fit.

EDIT: Did i mention squad vision for the scanner?
With the Gal/Cal scout the scan precision will beat the adv scanner (Cal with no mod Gal with one mod). They will also beat any medium frame wearing a complex dampener. With one comp range amp on either Suit you'll be scanning at 54m. Now while this is just a little over half the range of the scanner, you also don't have to worry about the hassles that come along with the scanner - continues scanning 360 degrees all day long.
While scout scanning does not transmit to tac net, it's perks where the indevidual are concerned make up for this.
Leave the scanning to the logis. Assaults assault, Scouts attack from enemy flanks using superior intel, and heavies bring the pain. There are always some exceptions to the rule, but this is my general view.
