Looks like CCP has decided to follow in the footsteps of EVE and make the Amarr armor resistance tankers, and Gallente armor rep tankers.
The stats can be found here: 1.8 Dropsuit Stats Sheet
If you look closely, you will see that the Amarr suits now have higher armor HP values than the Gallente hinting that they are meant to be armor resistance tankers (plates) and now the Gallente have built in armor reps in their suits.
I am glad that CCP has decided to follow the EVE ways of tanking as it will make it simpler for those who have EVE experience to recognize the tanking styles of the four factions, and also make the game more familiar in general.
+1 CCP.

Infantry technology doesn't have to be based on ship design. Medieval knights didn't go into battle with wood armor, smacking people with oars.
I hope they keep the assault and logi stats, variation makes things more intriguing for me.

It isn't so much that they (Faction Armies) are following ship designs, but more so their faction's ideals. For example the Amarr are armor resistance tankers with their ships - they like a lot of armor plates. This is something that is ingrained in the Amarr Navy...something accepted as fact - it's just what they do. Logically, they would transfer that ideal to their ground force army because I said, that ideal is ingrained - it's what they do. It would make little sense for a faction to suddenly mix up their ideals and tanking styles. While it isn't unheard of and COULD be done, it just makes more sense for the factions to stick to what they do best.

I agree.
But Amarr should get more total Base eHp than others suits. (At least 75). Right now Heavies have the same total Hp (Amarr/calda/gallente).
Same for others suits they should have at least 50/75 more base ehp since they have less modules slots. |

I never understood why people use this argument for defending the current stats? Amarr and Gallente are backwards. Gallente are flexible with Armor. Amarr are supposed to be the best armor tankers. It never makes sense because all armies had some central focus in designs like the EVE races do. Guerillas are focused on hit and runs. The ****'s were known for their brute force and blitzkrieg tactics. I'm not that knowledgeable about the subject but you could go on through out history.
Anyways. It's for the best if they have the bonuses from SISI with these stats. Gallente won't be Armor Rep OP and the Amarr can't do the same as well but they're formidable. Would imagine that Gallente mercs would prefer to use a mix of Reps and Armor to have a more flexible Armor-based suit. Would also imagine that the Amarr would only use 1 Rep while throwing on a bunch of plates.

I could argue that having the heavies all have the same eHP is probably for the better. Why? Because if you give the Amarr more eHP, along with their resistance bonus, then you'd get a class that many would spec into just for the eHP. Even if it's just 100 eHP more, it's still significant as a Heavy.

DUST ist not EVE 2. active tanking does not exist in DUST on dropsuits and having some built in armor repair does NOT equal active tanking. it is for after combat 3. hit and run for repairs is minmatars domain, the bonus should not be on gallente suits.

What's the deal with the Gallente scout armor rep rate? Is that 3hp/sec per level? Why is it higher than the Gallente heavy suits?

However, the Minmitar suit is faster, making it a harder target and the hacking bonus is huge in skirmish matches.
Also, the Minmatar bring their welding irons to the battlefield. I would assume ground-based remote repping is more "their domain" than millennium-old battle tactics.

first off all, remote repping does not save you from big hits and you can remote rep gallente suits too. nothing stops you to squad up with a gallente heavy and use remote reps on him to get best of both worlds.
and second actually I have redone my math and base values are 10% less hp health and 5% more speed for minmatar. after full fit the gap is even wider with ~15% less EHP and ~8% more speed. meager speed advantage for that huge HP drop.
in short, the numbers are off, the gallente suit is already superior to minmatar. the speed disadvantage is really marginal, does not really affect combat outcome and you get the free repair bonus addtionally to that. |
