After looking at the Warframe wiki a little...It makes me wonder would different melee weapons be viable. I mean, we have Nova Knives and those should be prime for killing soon but can we expand upon them? Talks of the Amarr AV blade(which sounds weird already) and people asking for other melee weapons is what sparked all of this.
 What the Hell would the other racial variants be? I know I seen different racial knives but I don't see how different they could be if Nova Knives already ignore efficiency. And even then, with only the efficiency and small details to worry about racial knives seem kinda pointless and over complicated. No one's going to want to worry about whether or not their knife is better for slashing shields away or armor when they pretty much all play the same except charge up time or speed in hitting.

I'd go for Plasma Swords for Gallente, Nova Knives(obviously) for Caldari, Laser Cutter for Amarr, and a Space-Machete for Minmatar.
Plasma Sword cuts through shields but are not as effective against armor although the range of the blade is also a bonus because the enemy will have a harder time fleeing CQC. Another issue is that it's slow compared to the other melee weapons.
Nova Knives would still be boss because of their short range. They cut through armor effectively but you need the charge up to actually get max potential damage on shields. I feel that it's already pretty limited because of both the range and the actual speed that a user needs to effectively kill. Medium suits and Heavy suits only get bonuses in "shock" factor when an enemy see's them gunning so slowly towards them with knives.
Laser Cutter is highly effective against shields but not as effective against armor. While it doesn't have as large of a range as the Plasma Sword, it's way faster. The other major flaw is that after a while of being "active" it becomes weaker and this is due to the laser needing to "recharge" lore wise but also to stop most people from just dashing through clusters of people slashing them down like it's nothing. It would have the third shortest range.
The Machete would be made from a special material that allows for optimal armor damage but low shield damage. It's shaped to smash and cleave at a moderately fast pace(faster than the Plasma Sword but slower than the Laser Cutter). It's the second longest melee weapon(Plasma Sword as first) with the second longest range.
Also. Each melee weapon would deserve an ability to block melee damage.  Melee battles would be much more epic.
Anyways, I'm done rambling like the bored idiot I am  . What do you guys have in mind, if you think more melee weapons would be viable, that is?
