I've noticed recently that when I start a match the Tank Spam generally goes straight to the neutral installations (mostly Turrets, but sometimes CRUs and even Supply Depots) and promptly annihilates them. I can think of only two reasons to do this.
1) Denies it from potentially falling into red hands.
2) It gives the same amount of WP as destroying a red installation.
The first is fine, but I would say that having it in blue hands is much more valuable than maybe having it fall into red hands later.
I think the second reason is the more likely, though, and I see it working against teamplay. The focus is on my WP and hell if my team could have used that installation. To that end, I would propose that -
neutral installation destruction give only half the WP of destroying an enemy installation
neutral turrets defend themselves against aggression
What do you think of this tactic, and what do you think of my suggestion?
For the record, I think it's fine, but that most people do it purely for WP rather than strategy.

But warpoints = orbitals = strategy.
That being said, yeah, its abused and should be changed, perhaps to half, perhaps to 0.

Speaking as a dropship pilot who feels the need to call out a Railgun HAV early (on many maps anyway) to clear out enemy redline Installations, I often find that destroying Neutral Installations saves myself and friendly vehicles a headache later in a match. Moving up in your HAV/ADS and getting shot in the back because your team lost control of a Blaster/Railgun Installation can be extremely bad, and costly.
Personally, even if destroying neutral Installations gave 0 WP I would still go about removing them early. They are currently trivial to remove with Railguns and/or a half-awake vehicle user, but one suddenly changing hands can be utterly devastating at the wrong time: why would you risk losing 300-500,000 ISK because your team did not protect the Installation (and why the hell would they!?)
If Installations required more effort for both vehicles to destroy and for infantry to hack, they could become much more valuable focal points of battles, but as is they are simply minor inconveniences at the beginning, or mostly dangerous, minor roadblocks later. |

Vehicle users take out ANY installations, just so they don't get shot by it later on.
