Let's face it Dust hasn't gotten a real cinematic trailer. The two closest things are a fanfest trailer which share an EVE DUST focus and the origins trailer which for some brief moments has some cool Dust stuff.
The early trailers before the betas had a dark mood, very appropriate and probably are the best example of what this game should be.
2009 (1:16 LAV takes out tank, helmetless men)
2011 (at 42 seconds you can see him hitting the crate in front of him, kinda funny)
What could be done is take the mood of the first two trailers, being dark and mysterious and keep personal. The Rubicon trailer spotlighted two people playing together keeping it personal while also having someone explain what's going on in the background which is great, even better than the expansion itself, but it showcases content, settings, and with a slower pace and darker setting DUST could have an equally cool trailer.
Keeping the emphasis on the cycle of life and death it could start out as a battle like the first Dust trailers. Dark and gritty, maybe between two factions likely Gallente and Caldari too keep it obvious through style what side he's on. Show racial tanks, racial rifles and dropships. Keeping things obscured in a lot of smoke and fire to save resouces also start to add to the mood that even though it's a chaotic situation the personal scale is small.
A rookie Gallente troop is hiding behind a hill, the hill beyond has him pinned by rail rifles and tanks. His friendly blaster tanks are getting torn apart as infantry tires to assault the hill Caldari held hill. It seems as though there is no hope......
Suddenly a flash of light from the sky. He duck and the Caldari held hills explodes under an immense barrage. Friendly infantry rushes behind him tell him to charge. Hope returns they make progress. Plasma cannons take out the Rail tanks at close range, the ARs cut through the Caldari. They are winning, but rail shots from a far take out our rookie, as he lays dying we see his POV as he slowly blacks out and dies, no comfort no aid.
Just darkness.... then he awakes again inside the MCC with a large group of random suits preparing to jump out. Someone says "good he's here" " we've been waiting for you, next time die a little sooner, we need you for our fight" the last shot then they all jump out at once on a different planet, and a different battle.
That would be all for that line in the trailer showcasing battles, death,, rebirth, equipment, orbital support, fac war, and the difference between running solo and in a corp. Simultaneously this could intercut with a CEO discussing the direction his corporation should take.
"What are we doing here?" -other
"Selling our loyalty to the highest bidder, I don't care about the land or the ideology, we just need to get paid" -CEO
"It's rough fighting someone else's war" -other
"War is always rough, but it's been rougher" -CEO
"Then what do you propose we do next?" -other
"Start making friends in high places" - CEO (showcase orbital)
"Low as well" -CEO (showcase close quarter fighting)
"How are we supposed to do that? We have so few numbers as it is"- other
"We can afford it"- CEO (Rookie get shot)
"There will always be war, there will always money in it, and people will always be fighting, let's start our own for a change"- CEO (rookie awakens)
"So how do we expect our troops to keep fighting without something to fight for?" -other (dialogue in MCC)
"Soldiers will always find something to fight for, wealth, comradeship, glory, patriotism, you just have convince them you can give it to them" - CEO
Now it should be implied but not necessarily so that the rookie is part of the CEOs corp, and it's all very rough but by having one side showcase the actual battles and combat intercut with a side showcasing a bit more of the politics, themes, and settings of the game you can show how the two are intertwined. There is a larger purpose for every battle but it still remains in the players hands to find a reason to fight, and the CEOs job to give it to them. The whole thing doesn't even have to be longer than a minute or two but with enough attention to detail and polishing (both fx and dialouge) it makes for a great showcase.
It also isn't very EVE reliant, which IMO if you aren't going to prioritize it in development, shouldn't be emphasized in trailers and press.
Where is my Gallente sidearm?

+1, for the great visual.
I found an actual really good video that could be a great gameplay trailer. Let me find a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YwfDKJVubg
