...I know it's coming.
Now that CCP has nerfed the swarm into nothing more than a decorative element and AV grenades into hand delivered farts pretty much handing this game over to HAVs and seem to pretty pleased with themselves having done this, I've been running pretty often with a forge. I'm still finding that killing tanks to be very difficult (I'm using a proto forge) I get maybe one or two tank kills out of every ten matches I play and it's usually a tank that's been pretty beaten down already - by other tanks no less. I get one tank kill per maybe every 15 times I get killed by a tank.
So, with the only truly effective weapon(s) effective against tanks being the forge and stationary turrets (which are sitting duck death holes anyway) I'm just waiting for the hammer do drop on the forge (pun intended). Seems to me that the developers have totally caved to the constant whining by tankers that "WAAAAAAAA infantry actually has a chance to kill me before I get my customary 15:1 k/d ratio! WAAAAA!"
So... CCP? When ya gonna defang the forge? I guess I shouldn't complain too much because it would give me another decorative element to hang on my wall right next to my now useless swarm. And those now practically worthless AV grenades? Well, they are about the size of a pint glass. Just need beer. |

I doubt they would nerf it twice in rapid succession.

AV nades are PRETTY good, my friend and I using a PRETTY lav and and PRETTY nothing more than av granades can destroy PRETTY every tank. I think the balance between vehicle and AV is PRETTY good, there are only PRETTY 2 problems. 1 militia tank PRETTY shouldnt exist. 2tank should cost PRETTY 2x or 3x how much their cost atm. PRETTY!

U been away or something? I gave u a like for the pun. Not for trying to solo ten ton death rolling death machines with a single slow infantry unit. A. Stick with it, the vehicle game is more tactical now B. If u like using a hand held rail gun, why not try the full size tank mounted version?

I teamed up with a sentinel running a breach forge a few days ago. We'd sight the tank, relay position in comms, and he'd just say "yehp"....and then within thirty seconds the tank would turn up in the kill feed, with the sentinel dead-panning "tanks' gone."
Later found out it was a proto with full proff and two damage mods, but still. The glory days of forge gunning can still be found if you work hard enough at it.
Dedicated Commando.
So it's a good job KDR doesn't bother me, really.

my adv swarm launcher is NOT useless... it can kill mlt vehicles just fine.. but i cant say the same for std tanks. |

Nades are still decent, adv and up finish off the tanks that my REs don't get. Explosives are amazing against vehicles. The FG was tastefully nerfed, meaning that it is pretty much perfect at the moment and balanced. Original damage or charge times would be nice though Anyway, proto swarms are good against STD stuff and SLs are needed in AV gangs. I haven't seen any attacks on the FG lately so I'm assuming everyone is cool with it. As long as the forums don't QQ about something it probably won't change. These forums are CCP's bible.

You're not supposed to be able to obliterate tanks all on your own when you choose to play as infantry. It's downright idiotic if you could.
I see no reason as to why forge guns should be nerfed, but I also can't see a viable reason why you should complain about the effectiveness of the forge guns now.
Also here's a tip: use an assault forge gun. They are the most effective against tanks right now. |

I don't buy that at all. Infantry should have a fair chance against tanks but no one says we're supposed to "obliterate" them. Just have a fair chance at killing them. The reduction of the maximum lock on range of the swarm made sense but reducing damage by a third is ridiculous overkill.

Who's complaining about the effectiveness of forge guns? Read my OP. It's pretty much all infantry has against tanks now at range. The point is that because forges are still somewhat effective at harming tanks, why not just take that away from infantry too?

And anyone who thinks that tanks aren't OP now take a look at Why Tanks ARE OP (Dust 514) Update 1.7 Three guys who've never tanked before using the most minimum SP militia fits pretty much owning the map and all getting kills into double figures with only one death between all three of them. I mean, come on. Infantry has never been able to "obliterate" armor in the year that I've been playing this game but at least before 1.7, they had a fair chance against it.

No, they just missed the mark on the Swarm Launcher and AV Grenade due to changing too many variables at once. The Forge Gun ended up fairly well balanced and will now become the benchmark against which all other AV are calibrated.
When CCP changes a system, in this case vehicles and AV, from the ground up, they are going to miss the mark in a few places, so it will require further tweaks to get it back to balance.
Of course you can expect the same thing when TTK is fixed in 1.8. Something is going to come out of it way OP and something will come out way UP due to unforeseen interactions from multiple variables being adjusted at the same time. We should see much better Vehicle/AV balance in 1.8 and better Infantry balance in the patch after 1.8 when these things are ironed out.

Whatever. Clearly you're not aware of why exactly tanks got this buff and rebalance in the first place?
But you're still having issues killing tanks with forges, so what can I say?
