Naturally battles have a short and long horizon (close fight and long fight) -this combination generates a layered combat experience..normally..but lately I have found Dust 514 has become an unbalanced tactical model dominated by geography that is suited only for close fighters. This is exasperated by the fact that scopes in sniper rifles have the magnification capability of a early 1900's weapon. If Dust wants to make this a close fight only platform, fair enough, but then why have a sniper character? As it is, the only options are to move sniper into the close fight radius (something a sniper would never do) or try to function in the long horizon in the tactical support role (where they would normally be) and have a few kills if on the rare occasion there is movement outside the buildings. Also a more balanced combat experience for both the close and long fight, would build a more dynamic team experience, and demand close fighters to move with more tactical skill..rather that running around fast in open and jumping like a bunny in an arcade game. The sniper could then practically join squads and provide movement intel on enemy movement and strategy and well as killing targets of opportunity. As it is one can practically only join a squad if part of the close fight (all commands are based this fight) I recommend a more layered and balanced geography and better scope magnification to raise the battle experience and respect the diversity of characters in play. |

I also think that the sniper should be buffed not in power but more of in hitting range since it is super hard to line up that small orange dot with someone's head. I am not full sure on the geographical level but there can always be improvements! |

I understand what they were doing to weapons ranges but if I can see a target well enough to aim at them but by sniper rifle can't shoot that far I get annoyed.

I agree man, but you're barking up the WRONG tree here. There's too many ignorant turds around here who are annoyed by snipers, have an irrational hatred of them, and don't even understand the difference between an actual sniper and someone shooting from redzone. They're loud, pissy morons who get all butthurt just because someone isn't running headfirst into their crosshairs at close range. |

Yes. Give snipers around 100 damage per bullet with 10x damage for head shots and better zoom but also bullet travel time. |

We need more maps with open letter points and open fields something I'd love to have but probably won't happen since CCP like to make in closed buildings.

With as devastating as snipers are right now imma say no... Specialty maps made to give one class a preference over another? No again. How about instead of an OP zoom, get better with the weapons you have. Sniper rifles are limited for a reason. We don't need another RR style pandemic like Dust is currently experiencing.

We don't need maps that give us an advantage, but without proper perches and overwatch positions, you're going to keep seeing people shooting from behind the redline. I'm not saying fixing the problem would eliminate redline sniping, but it would reduce it.
For the map sizes as they are now, the range is okay. We do need variable scopes with more AND less zoom options.
Anyone who suggests bullet drop or travel time is just trying to break the class completely because they don't like it, end of story. |

A scope that's a bit more suited to the mid game would be just about perfect.
Sniper Rifles aren't that bad right now. There just mind bogglingly specialized. On the right map they can change the course of the battle. On the wrong map they're useless; but that's not a bad thing. Not every weapon needs to be used at 100% efficacy on every single map at all times.
It would be nice if CCP designed a few more snipers perches into the levels, but I don't think the weapon itself needs to be changed a great deal.

If I can't find a safe place where to use my Kaalakiota Sniper rifle, heck yeah I'm gonna sit somewhere in the red line. CCP is doing almost everything to discourage us from sniping, like preventing people from normally reaching an high spot or by placing some ridicolous pillar in the middle of nowhere just because 500 meters away there is a good sniping area.

I find that Snipers are in a good place, not great but not the redline killfest they were before. When they aren't expoiting a glitched spot it they can be countered by other snipers. Most maps aren't very sniper friendly but no map is sniper proof, and the setup of junk around letters to keep them relatively safe from snipers IMO is fine to keep them from being OP. Most people I snipe are running out in the open when there are plenty of other routes to take. As for career sniping if someone is good at it they can make due on any map.
When I run sniper I am always calling out vehicle locations, enemy movements, and exposed letters. I've always believe that the battlefield intelligence role is underestimated because it's rarely used in pubs, but knowing where the enemy is before he knows where you are is a force multiplier. I can also help where it is needed faster than other players... at least on one side of the map.
Only 4 things still need to be addressed 1. People dissapear from view too close on Ashland. People easily seen just *poof* disappear after a certain point, which means the only way to counter snipe redline snipers is by getting closer into the map even though they aren't any further away on other maps.
2. HD has improved vastly but there are still isues with head gliching. If I can line up and turn that dot red it should hit my target. By that same token if I can't hit him even though I can see him and line up the shot, they shouldn't be able to hit me.
3. The MCC still allows people on top. I understand the issue is with invisible walls and I can still counter snipe people on top, but it's an exploit that just looks terrible.
4. There is a glitch that happens when calling out squad orders and zooming in that makes the aiming dot disappear. Since half the time I snipe I remain SL to point out tank and enemy locations and find the best place to drop strikes it makes sniping infantry almost impossible unless I go through a crazy squad order and zooming ritual.

I don't see a problem with how it is now- either use a scout that happens to occasionally use a sniper rifle between more important things, or roll a commando and stay at shorter range.

As it is, it is still substantially cost-effective to spawn snipers, especially for those of us who are KB/M players. The risks are low, and the benefits are higher, even in games where a sniper can only get 1-2 kills before dying to another sniper or raging antisniper fit.
Moreso if one isn't at the peak of the pack as a CQC player, snipers are a safe way to get any kills in most matches.
The one thing that irritates me is when people decide to snipe from behind the redline. I say this as a longtime sniper, and at the risk of giving myself away: I take an overwatch position well within the play area, and suffer players hunting me down when they get pissed about my high DPS. On the other hand, I've been out there with an AR or RR or CR or ScR trying to hold the line against the enemy and I get flanked by some glass cannon that the many multiple snipers behind me should have helped to kill well ahead of their arrival.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that snipers are a multifaceted role with many benefits and drawbacks that roughly balance-out at the moment. I would say that other things should be fixed first, and then snipers should be reassessed later. |
