Maybe I need to go back to running double damage mods on my missile tank. All in all though, rails for anti tank work and blasters for infantry.
Missiles against shield and armor Missiles, to me, fill neither niche fully. Missiles are very good against armor, but so is a rail gun. Missiles (without damage mods) require a reload against every type of tank(well fit). so it will take a minimum of 15 seconds, to win an engagement. Within this time, a double hardened single damage mod rail fit will destroy any tank.
And missiles are nearly useless against shields. Assuming they have at least one hardener. I have much better luck using a double hardened, single damage mod blaster fit.
Missiles and infantry Missiles are deadly accurate, wherever you point, that is where the missile goes. The only thing that might be weird, is that they fire from different positions, ie one missile comes from the left side of the launcher, the next from the right.
When using them to kill infantry, splash is irrelevant. Unless you have them trapped in a very small area, with lots of concentrated splash potential, you are not killing them with splash. So the aim here is to go for direct hits. Thing is, sometimes you need to hit them with more than one missile.
I would say I average slightly more infantry kills with missiles than I do rails, but I think that number is closer to the same. So want to kill infantry, Blasters it is!
So this kinda leaves missiles in the dark against infantry, and very situational against other tanks. Armor tank, sure I'll try him out. Gunnlogi without a hardener, sure, though with a hardener I don't think so.
Missiles are able to unleash some extreme damage rather quickly, but so does a rail(more I would say). And reload isn't quite so painfully crippling. Not to mention, you have a much higher potential to miss with missiles, considering the number of missiles fired. And missing means less on the dps!
So I have been torn, recently, on what to choose. Very rarely do I pull my missiles out anymore. I find the rail fits the niche of anti vehicle much better and blasters are much better for the Infantry.
Still trying to figure out where exactly missiles fit in, aside from being an armor buster. I was one of the first people running missiles in 1.7, and I decimated everything. But once people caught on to hardeners, that all went downhill!
Thoughts?
I feel reload is crippling a lot of potential

I use missile gunnlogi. I use it because I like missiles and the gunnlogi is the tank that missiles go with. I don't power play or FOTM.
Atm missiles and a gunnlogi are mostly UP against other tank types. I hate that the madrugar is still a better tank to mount Caldari weapons.
The fix though isto nerf the RoF, repeating action of the rail turret. It should not be that effective in CQ combat. I shouldn't have to worry about the fight and have to do the Texas two step so much with a rail tank once I get up on it.
The rail should be effective for long range only and if it has a clear continuous bead on the target. Atm I don't see what need there is for missiles or blaster when you can just use the rail so effectively.
I've been forced to use a rail and even go as far as using a rail madrugar just to be on par with all the tank scrubs using them. It's just too tricky to field a missile gunny with too specific a set of circumstances to even take a tank almost down let alone kill it.
I'd also like to see missiles do more damage at a little further range. If I could one volley maddies from just a bit further away that would justify missiles. As it is I have to either two volley with the first volley coming from further away or just roll up and ram them and put a volley on them. If it doesn't kill them then I have to pop my second hardener and roll off.
Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!
