Well, he is technically correct that General Discussion is under the Dust 514 section because it is for discussion of the game only.

Until further notice all trips to the surface of mars is one way. Look what it takes to get off of Earth, Mars will have a similar requirements to achieve orbit.
If I didn't have children I would go. People now days are too afraid of things, if people had been this scared of everything through out history we would all still be living in caves watching the latest version of That Fire Show everyone likes. People have to risk to be rewarded and I think a few one way trips would speed up the exploration of our solar system.

That's because Earth's gravity would crush you after becoming accustomed to Mars gravity.
Anyway, it's sad to see their Indiegogo campaign barely getting any funds. Meanwhile, silly phone gadgets on Kickstarter are funded after two minutes and don't even provide anything that would make them better than existing tech.
This is kind of depressing. And reminds me that we are living in a cyberpunk world. |

Their current plan is to send their first rover in 2016 (or was it 2018?) as a proof of concept.
First humans in 2025. And then every two years four new settlers.

Space colonization is the future of humanity, it's practically unforgivable that it's taken us this long.
What IS unforgivable is that governments aren't funding this research and movement every single step of the way.

yea but it just all sounds so ghetto. the no return trip is the scary part. that's enough to make someone go postal on mars, even tho they sign up for it. those that where tinfoil hat say there's already a joint US/SOVIET base there anyway since the 70s
i just watch to much sci fi but they better go in there packing heat
or just nuke the entire sight from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Literally anyone can send in a video app (they're public, so you can go watch them) as long as you're of age. The funniest videos are the ones who say "I'm an outdoor person" like that means anything. You'll be stuck in a small station on Mars for life lol |

i'm sure at first it would be a honeymoon but after that wears off your staring at an endless wasteland and growing carrots in a little box. and you'll probably suffer somehow physically over time from the change in gravity. any relevant find of artifacts or life will be censored and that could add to psycological factor of what are we even doing here.

I agree that people in general have become more chicken than they were in the past but this simply not the case in this instance. Every single expedition into the uncharted either has had some faith and assurance in case of something going wrong, mainly hopping on whatever they used to get there and going home, OR sent the unwanteds, prisoners, soldiers, poor people..etc. A "Mars suicide one-way trip" is kind tough sell. |
