See this is the BS that is wrong with society. Not everyone deserves a trophy. If I lost and coach came to me and said we did our best and patted me on the back that was all I needed. Now they just give out trophies for showing up, what a bunch of BS. You lost get the F*** over it and try harder next time.

One could also argue that the "BS that is wrong with society" is people taking everything way way too seriously.

Luckily for you, I have a fix! Every time an individual doesn't meet the "requirements" for a positive outcome of a match, you can display "You almost won that match, buddy!" instead of "Mission Failed."
Let's empower the new generation!
Omg no. No no no
Positive reinforcement serves to grow whiners and welfare junkies.
Omg pleez give my kid a trophy because he came in last.
This kind of thinking only serves to show kids there are no consequences for their actions and there is no need to get better and strive for greatness. I hope you feel bad you are raising loser kids and if you dont have kids, I hope you never do.

Now I hardly think the op is being serious, but that said you're hardly a model parent either.
Your line of reasoning will instead make your kids unable to ever settle for anything and will become extremely depressed at every kind of failure and loss (which is a part of life).
Competition for the sake of competition tend to be more harmful for most participants since there can usually only be one winner.
It's kind of how it works in large scale economic systems. An ugly little fact that purebreed capitalists rarely likes to talk about isbthe fact that a capitalist economy NEEDS unemployed people, because if everyone had jobs and salaries then the economy would eventually stagnate into inflation.
Basically in order for there to exist a few wealthy people they NEED a bunch of poor, unemployed people to make sure that all the money that the wealthy people have is actually worth a damn and not just bundles of worthless pieces of paper.
Or to put it into more simple terms: in order for there to be any winners, there has to be losers as well.
An ideal society lets it be okay to lose, and the winners try to take care of the losers (and not purely out or charity but due to being informed of the fact that without losers, the achievements of winners won't be worth anything).
This is a fact of life that the "win at all costs"-mentality often fail to take into account.

You can always switch languages. You could turn it off if looks like you're losing. You can get a bucket of paint and blot out where the words were and mute the TV. You could hire a ringer so you have someone to blame your failure to. Lots of options really.
Of course you should try winning sometime. |

I am collating the answers in this thread for my psych study on the correlation between high levels of forum usage and aspergers (or asshattery, not sure how I'm going to title the paper). |

I don't think most posters did. They might be like me. That is finding it rather dull to just write "bleh, go trollz is trolling". It's more fun treating the subject as if it was hypothetically serious. |

Did you even read that?
"How about the fact that a staggering 95 percent will close their doors before they hit their fifth year of operation? That one seems a bit hard to believe but in todayGÇÖs economy, it could be true."
It could be true.
Also something interesting to note, look at the first three comments on the bottom. Guess I'm just 89% right on this one. |
