Like a bunch of other suckers, post 1.7 I decided to try my hand at vehicles.
I have crashed literally several dropships, which I figure makes me an expert now. Therefore, I have to point out a couple of things I think we desperately need for dropships.
One, a hover button. This is not easy mode. Dropships control very much like helicopters, and since most helicopters now have a simple control to put them in a stationary hover, there is no reason for a space-helicopter in the far-off and amazing future not to have the same feature. There are unused buttons on the controller, one could easily be pressed to cause the dropship to hold a stationary position.
Two, on-screen instrument cluster. Pitch, roll, and yaw indicators at the bare minimum. The camera set-up for the dropship makes it rather difficult to reliably orient yourself, especially given how the dropship reacts to uneven terrain. For extra credit, an altimeter and an airspeed indicator.
Three, a rearview button: All the vehicles need this, really. It takes something like two hours to swing a turret around in an LAV or HAV to look behind you, and it's not possible at all in a dropship. There are bad things behind me, and I want to be able to look at them.
Death is a learning experience. I just wish I wasn't such a slow learner. >.<

If you're going to be flying dropships, you'd better get used to crashing and being killed in 500k-1m glass coffins. These are just baby steps.
However, I wouldn't mind a hover button. The militia auto-leveling after a time is ok, but I'd rather have something I can do on and off.
Eh, not a fan of instruments, at least I've never had the need for them. If you can't see the ground long enough to gauge you hight, you're probably spinning out of control or need better spacial awareness.
A rearview would be nice, especially for tanks.
PS These videos will help you or anyone else interested with flying.

Not just height, but position/direction. They could help to maintain specific angles, for circling a building say. They could also clue you in when you're off level, which isn't always easy to determine.
The tanks do desperately need it, though I will miss being able to hide by standing directly behind them, hehehe. That video series is excellent, I've been using it to practise. Thank you for linking it!

Join the chat "1st Airborne." The guy in the videos, Judge Rhadamanthus, runs that chat and it's full of helpful pilots.
