...IIRC New Eden is 20,000 years in the future (not really sure on this, too lazy atm to check EVEWiki so let's settle on a kajillion).
So you're telling me that a kajillion years into the future, a soldier must have a physical handheld device (lets say a lantern) to gain invisibility?
It is 2014 and we have metamaterials that can warp and bend parts of the electromagnetic spectrum around an object rendering it "invisible" to that part of the spectrum. How in the world did the empires of New Eden not design a suit with that material as an outer skin or something?
This is more of a lore based head scratcher here, not a QQ or T_T, more of a....."huh?"
Any thoughts?

20,000 years in the future, turrets offer no protection for its user whatsoever, and the user cannot see an enemy walking right up on him.

They did, but then that coating was foiled with a system of counter-measures that the Caldari designed not along ago. That made that old tech obsolete. This new tech has yet to be foiled so it is the "current gen."

20,000 years in future and we still have vehicles that use tracks, soldiers that lack the stamina to run less than 200 meters without some form of drugs, and radar still cannot pick up a multi ton vehicle less than 10 meters from you

20,000 years in the future, when dropsuits are described as being nearly personal ships with their own shields and armor, beating on someone with the butt of your gun is still a way to kill them.

Technological quirks are explained away by New Eden recovering from a dark age and gradually reinventing and rediscovering lost technologies. They basically dug up all of this advanced **** and are still figuring out how it works.

Who says it's a physical handheld device? It sounds to me that it's an active system the you just need to activate - not unlike a vehicle harderer. |

Yeah, but an interstellar civilization should be so far advanced compared to us that they should be completely be beyond us; this is why alien invasion and resistance movies are BS (ask Michio Kaku or some other scientist in a relevant field). For some reason our tech is nothing more than scifi versions of existing technologies. If this game was realistic in that regard, we would be transhumanist hivemind network of digitally replicated and augmented human minds controlling legions of drones flying faster than the speed of sound, yet able to target and hit enemies with an array of antimatter weapon with perfect accuracy, 360 degree vision in the entire electromagnetic spectrum, etc. Sounds insane, but an interstellar civilization really would be much much much more advanced then us. That wouldn't make a good shooter, maybe an RTS or something.

Off topic but related.
I showed my dad the basics of computing, he turned on the pc and thought he'd ruined it somehow on boot up because of all the info scrolling up the screen.
He panicked and tried to turn it off shouting "sht I fked it up already, it was hilarious but he is now up to speed, he was in his own technological dark age.
