Who can elaborate on the lore behind the races and the tech they developed/are proficient with and how much of that is represented in DUST? Also, which races developed the various equipment we have in game (aside from the obvious ones like Gal armor and Cal shield)? I've seen the drop uplinks are Amar tech...?

This has a very complicated answer with about 10 years of story telling.

As far as weaponry goes,
Amarr have an affinity towards laser tech, both beam lasers and pulse lasers. Caldari have an affinity towards rail gun systems along with missiles Gallente have an affinity towards plasma tech, particularly blasters Minmatar have an affinity towards projectile weaponry and explosives
A quick run down of all current gear and which race develops it
Amarr: Scrambler Rifle, Scrambler Pistol, Laser Rifle, Drop Uplinks Caldari: Rail Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Missile Launcher, Nova Knives, Forge Gun, Rail Turrets, Missile Turrets, AV Grenade, Nanohives, Nanite Injectors Gallente: Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Plasma Cannon, Blaster Turrets, Flux Grenade, Active Scanners Minmatar: Combat Rifle, Mass Driver, SMG, Flaylock Pistol, Heavy Machine Gun, Locus Grenade, Remote Explosives, Repair Tool

Thanks! What about cloaking tech in EVE? I would assume Gallente going off their scanner affinity.
Edit: ooh thanks for the reading Robot. :D

Lore wise, not a clue - but for the sake of gameplay no one race has any unique bonuses to cloaking |

To the best of my knowledge there aren't really any factions that are strongly associated with cloak tech.
Edit: there's also some crossover like the Ishukone assault SMG, which is a Minmatar weapon developed by a Caldari corp with a past habit of helping the Minmatar. |

Cloaking technology came about as a result of the Crielere project. That was a joint venture between the Gallente and Caldari. It collapsed shortly after the discovery leading to an arms race as the scientists scattered to various empires, all of whom were quite interested in the technology. Any of the empires would declare themselves the 'first' to have cloaking technology but much like what happened with the fullerenes revolution it is not so simple.
None of the empires display a particular affinity for the tech.

Thanks for the insight. Is it a similar situation for eWar in general?

Eh, I'm not too familiar with the factions eWar stuff, but I know Gallente are supposed to be better at scanning systems and such where as Caldari as supposed to be better at jamming systems. Not sure about Amarr or Minmatar.

EDIT: SoE ships not included - but faction stuff is special like that.
EDIT2: In Dust each races scouts look to be getting there own different bonus that affects cloaking - but the mechanic will work very differently than in EVE, as you'd expect.

There's an interesting bit of confusion around "hybrid weapons", which are blasters and railguns. **** if I can remember why they're called "hybrid", something about them both using a special type of plasma cartridge that works universally in either weapon system (blasters pump plasma out of the cartridge and supercharge it in a particle accelerator, railguns just launch the entire plasma filled cartridge at ludicrous speed into a target). Also they both involve lots of ****ing magnets.
In EVE Blasters and Railguns, despite being more closely associated with Gallente and Caldari respectively, are interchangeable. Gallente ships frequently fit railguns instead of blasters for the extra reach at the cost of firepower, and you can put blasters on Caldari gunboats and end up with a surprisingly long reach thanks to caldari hybrid range bonuses.
It made some sense, backstory there is that Caldari used to be part of the Gallente federation, and hybrid weapons were standard military tech they both would have had access to before the races broke off from eachother and started specializing their tech in favor of blasters or railguns.
This somewhat exists in Dust too, but it looks like its starting to fade. The Gallente assault gets a hybrid weapon fitting bonus that extends to the rail rifle and sniper rifle (both caldari), but according to the test server that's going away, and the gallente/caldari commandos specify plasma/railgun weapons for their bonus.
For a while vehicle railgun and blaster turrets were controlled by a single skill - small and large hybrid turrets - but now blasters and rails are separate skill trees. |

EWAR: Listed by racial specialty.
Caldari: Jammers. Caldari Information Warfare Techs are the masters of denying enemy electronics the ability to generate a target lock, rendering them largely helpless. In EVE this tends to result in keyboards thrown through monitors as you cannot lock ANYTHING. This is not applicable to DUST, except maybe swarm launchers.
Minmatar: Target Painting allows you to laser a target to make it easier to hit with things like missiles.
Amarr: Tracking disruption causes your guns to jam up and be unable to track fast (or even slow) targets causing you to blow off precious ammo randomly into space rather than into enemy hulls.
Gallente: Sensor damping drastically reduces the range at which you can target someone. It's especially hilarious when you do it to someone in a Rokh or Raven and their targetting range goes from 120 Km to about 4 Km.
Generic EWAR:
Webbing: Uses malicious programs and electromagnetic interference to f*ck up the propulsion systems of your ship. Webbing in DUST would create servomotor jams in your armor, and cause vehicle powerplants to fart, thus reducing speed.
Warp jamming/Scrambling: You hack an enemy ship's warp drive and make it so they cannot excape you.
Interdiction Bubbles: Mimics a planetary gravity well and yoinks ships out of warp and denies them access to their warp drives for many kilometers in all directions. Warp bubbles do not discriminate and you can, in fact get you and your buddies killed by your own bubble. |

Mostly good info, but there's a bit you missed.
Warp scrambling is an area the Gallente specialise in - The Arazu is a good example of a ship geared towards that.
Energy neutralisation is an important one that you missed. Neuts and nosferatus disrupt the enemy capacitor - neutralisers will straight up kill off cap from targets while nosferatus are also known as energy vampires and drain some into your own ship. The Amarrians and especially their splinter pirate faction the Blood Raiders specialise in this.
Stasis webifying is an area the Minmatar specialise in - I'm sure you've met the Rapier...

All very interesting. Examples of DUST eWar that we've come across so far include:
scanning map scrambling voice comms denial stasis webifiers energy drainers
Can't wait till some of this stuff starts to materialise.
