With the RR, SCR, and CR being ranged weapons I would assume the AR is at a disadvantage. It seems as if engagements are at longer and longer ranges now where if you're caught with an AR, you're pretty much boned.
Just wondering if they're still viable.

I get killed by the them quite often. There honestly isn't a ton of places you can stand outside of an AR's range with the way the maps are built unless you're killing people in between objectives.

I see them often enough, but mostly GEKs i see more proto CR and RR than proto AR these days. |

With a big asterisk, yes they are viableGǪhowever,
Their shorter range (and the presence of other much more long range rifles) means that AR users are more situational then ever before. If my Gal Assault can close in to a Cal Assault I usually win if all things are equal. But, given that range its a tense process.
Also, other Rail users seem to be able to use the RR for CQCGǪa feat I can't seem to replicate.
Also, I just came from a match where Caldari Assault were formed in British Redcoat-style firing lines and demolishing everything with their Rails. It was a chilling experience. |

If you're even half decent at strafing and know how to use cover, then yes, they are viable. Step out of your cover for 2 seconds and you're dead.
But the CR is your best bet IMO.

This is my rifle. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

They are still viable, but are an extremely CQC weapon, I use them on my commando fit mostly.

In other news: I took all of my gall assault fits, copied them and replaced the ARs with RRs and CRs. |

You just have to know how to properly approach a confrontation with another weapon. For instance, if you come across a rail rifle, start playing peek-a-boo with cover. The RR has to charge up before it starts firing, so if you're constantly poking your head in and our of cover that creates an advantage for you since the AR does not have any charge up. If you're going against a combat rifle, well . . . . think of something and pray I guess

I'm sure they are in the right environment, the question is if the user is skilled enough to engage at an advantage rather than fight at range. I've been killed by many geks using my sb-39 |

Still, I stand firmly to the belief that the scrambler rifle is the most versatile weapon of the bunch.

Two complex damage mods on it and it struggles so badly against shields.
