Large Missle turrets
+ high rate of fire and only large turret with a bonus to armor damage so great for insta killing armor tanks when shot in their sweet spot.
- terible at killing infantry comparied to even the rail cannon - empties mag way to quick and has very long reloads - terible vs shield tanks, even un hardened - requires turret operation lvl 5 when other only need 1 (rail gun should be at least 3), somehow saying its better than the other two but really isent
Small Missle turret
+ insane blast damage + insane RoF when fit to a caldari drop ship + only turret viable on dropships due to blast + direct damage makes it almost to good at killign other vehicals making the small railgun lose its nitch.
- requires turret operation lvl 5, but this time instead of pretending to be better than the others it is better and really the only choice.
What was CCPs rational by making missles the only Turret required to need higher than operation lvl 1? why couldn't they make them balanced and have the operation lvl be useful for just decreasing fitting. And why did they mess with the large missle turret at all when it burst fire with large blast damage worked great before 1.7, they didnt change the other two large turrets. |

honestly missile should require turret operation lvl 3 and rail should be 5
since rail is king AV right now.

Well while we are being honest, i think large rails just need their turret turn speed and RoF both cut in half, and they would be decent. Make the user have to take more careful shots. |

since rail is king AV right now. Rail is king at everything, though not as effective as blasters against infantry. It laughs against blaster and missile tanks though. Missiles should be king of AV at close range, then railguns take that title beyond effective missile range (which is a whimpy 150m).
Skills should remain as they are, and nerf the railgun. Make it overheat on the third consecutive shot to discourage their use in CQC. See how it plays out. If needed, increase the fire interval.
This is how turrets should compare, in order of increasing effectiveness: VS infantry: missile -> railgun -> blaster VS vehicles: blaster -> railgun -> missile
Right now, railguns are more effective at AV than missiles because they are effective at any range, and shield railgun tanks beating shield missile tanks. I don't care if missiles are bonused against armor. Railguns should have a very hard time killing things at CQC, allowing shield missile tanks to kill shield railgun tanks at CQC. This allows for shield missile tanks to be taken out by both themselves and railguns at long range. Currently, the only counter to a railgun is with another railgun, and that's not balance.

I don't know why, but small missiles are easier to aim on my dropship than small rails are, and I have some SP in small rail proficiency.

I love Gunnlogi missile tank; but, that is just for the cool factor. The actual effectiveness is really hit or miss for me. I either have to fire from farther away and usually don't completely destroy the tank due to less damage at longer range or I have to get up on a tank and hope I can get them in one volley. If not I'm playing dances with tanks or texas two-step to try and get a second volley before my last hardener goes down or they get enough rail shots on me.
Tricky, tricky but I'd rather be called a scrub in a difficult to play tank combo then be a real scrub in an easy kill machine. I have an armor tanker alt for that stuff.
If I use damage mods rather than hardeners then I have to worry about keeping distance. That is a hard thing to do on most map locations. Tanks can dodge out of the way or if I have to get closer, then tanks can just roll up on me and get the shots before I can make a getaway.
I usually just opt to go for it, ram them, go over or under or circle around until a reload.
