I want to help recruit for Dust by writing blogs on gaming websites to tell people about why they should give it a chance (or a second chance), and give them he info they need to succeed, but I want to wait until the game is a a good state to do so.
Issues right now that makes me not want to advertise Dust: PC lag makes it broken.
FW is not worth it, that can be easily fixed though.
Public contract ambush is broken (spawns have never worked well), seriously change it completely.
The only mode/contract combinations that truly work well is public contract skirmish and domination.
Complete lack of interesting game modes. No attack/defend, no modes with multiple stages, no PVE.
Matchmaking sucks, and not just at matching players by skill (leading to protostomping). I get thrown into battles with uneven teams, in fact I had 3 v 9, and a 4 v 2 battle earlier. I still get battles with a full team of friendlies, but 0 enemies. In both these sorts of cases, matchmaking does not add any new players even though its clearly needed. Matchmaking has no problem adding players to battles about to end. Why does matchmaking not add players to mostly empty battles, yet add players to battles about to end? I have even seen players joining in the VICTORY / DEFEAT screen.
Very poor NPE. There's the stomping on the newbs. No PVE. No combat tutorial to explain using equipment, quick-swapping weapons, calling in vehicles, how squad works, squad orders, hacking, etc. No explanation of the connections between EVE (like where and how you can get a strike from an EVE player). No marketplace tutorial. No LP/standing explanation in game. No listings of weapon types in the stats (rail, plasma, laser, projectile, explosive) and their effectiveness on shields and armor. Lack of militia weapons for players to try and make an informed decision before skilling into.
Texas blaster-tank massacre. While large blasters should be effective against infantry, they're too devastatingly powerful.
AV is largely worthless against tanks, and are useless against the majority of enemy infantry (unlike games like Battlefield where you don't have to make that sacrifice).
There is never any big exciting features that are in the game, all the big stuff is just Fanfest announced features that never come. Dust has nothing to make its combat gameplay particularly special.
Lack of basic social features. Knowing who's online or in a battle. Indicators of who is talking (speech bubbles over speaker's head in battle, and names listed on the side of the screen with speaker symbols) so you won't have to stare in the chat or memorize voices.
Suit and weapon balance issues (but every game has those)
Grind.
I like this game a lot despite all that, but I doubt whatever newbs I recruit will put up with it long enough to get hooked. The game's many problems make it never the right time to start recruiting new players because it seems like it will take years for these to be fixed, and for Dust to be at an acceptable state.
