Hi CPMs / Candidates
I was just wondering if you could share some of your views on priorities.
Between core mechanics, new content, PvE, integrated player market and the slew of other things DUST 514 will need, what do you think is important. I would like to hear your honest opinions, good or bad.
Mine would be as follows.
1. Core mechanics. Bugs, frame drops and general performance need to be smoothed ASAP. The lag in PC at times can be terrible as mentioned by various clones. Fatal errors and instability only add to this, making player retention harder when the game kicks them. Matchmaking is also problematic for NPE, using high/low-sec models from eve would allow players to adjust and learn an ever changing battle field.
2. Content. Racial variants for all existing assets would help bring the MMO to basic levels. Having a full inventory will keep players busy with exploring fits and play styles for a long time. It would also make the universe feel more alive and productive, because honestly, the Amarr and Minnmatar are slacking. This would include everything from drop suits to warbarges.
3. Integrated Market. Linking with EVE is what brought me here. Having our economies linked will give EVE pilots a lot more reasons to be interested and supportive of DUST. And vice versa. Allowing us to trade, buy and sell across platforms would allow EVE pilots to sell assets and pay for contracts. This is essential for a robust FW and would pave the way for MMO play.
4. PvE. The importance of these game modes cannot be underestimated or rushed. This is where alliances, corps, mercs and pilots could truly have a meaningful link. This is probably the most flexible area in the game. Sabatoge, procurement, exploration, defence and attack missions are just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine a linked network where advertisements of corps, available contracts ( DUST and EVE ) and shady deals could be found and made. 'The Worm Hole'. So cliche, so subversive.
Thank you in ADV for sharing.

My priorities as a candidate would be 3, 2, 1, 4.
I feel that an integrated market will put the MMO in our little MMOFPS, and as one of the main selling points for this game, I feel integration with EVE is an incredibly high priority. It needs to be part of the sandbox, not a FPS that happens to take place on the same servers as the sandbox.
The content is definitely needed, and the sooner the better. The art assets were shown off for a lot of those suits a full year ago, so it's about time they get them into the game. There was surely still a lot of work to do on them, but by now, we should be seeing more of those.
Core mechanics isn't something I think can be just pushed, they're an art of constant passes. Every patch, core mechanics have gotten smoother. (Sometimes new content have made them rougher again though.) It's a constant work in progress, and core mechanics can't be an excuse to hold up game development entirely, but it does have to continue.
As much as people are looking forward to PvE, I feel PvE is reliant on the rest of the game being more complete. So I guess it's my last priority not because it's less important, but because I feel it's conditional on the rest being done. PvE needs to have a meaningful contribution to DUST gameplay. The rewards have to be useful, and unique. There needs to be a full set of suits and weapons before PvE rewards come out. And a player market needs to get in ASAP to make PvE and FacWar rewards worthwhile, so they can be resold.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

I will parrot Soraya's choice and also go 3,2,1,4
The player market is a very important feature in terms of extra payouts from the salvage of FW, a game mode that currently gives pretty poor payouts for winning and even worse payouts for losing. (when you compare the isk value of lp, which is around 50,000 per 100 lp)
It would also allow the eve-dust link to start to flourish, in the form of player made items, the opening of new trade hubs in eve focused around dust items (until the mercs can move around themselves) would be a good start to the link via the use of new pilots in local channels conversing with dust players. This doesn't seem like much but local channel is where every Eve pilot's story began, this is how they formed friends and contacts and this will be where dust characters will start to find players that, later down the line, might be inclined to form contracts with those mercs once PC moves to nullsec.
Content is always a no-brainer, more shiny things means more diverse matches, more fitting metas, more counters to other metas and, more importantly, more fun for everyone.
Core mechanics are in a decent place at the moment, but it can always be improved in every area, luckily CCP already know this and every patch has always improved on it.
PvE would really come under content for me, but unlike most content releases, PvE is reliant on the player markets to be worth while, lest it become a farm-able pub match with only isk rewards and nothing new and unique for the mode

The order in which I would focus on these issues (assuming that the DEV's can only focus on one thing at a time), 2, 1, 3, 1, 4, 1.
This game has been pretty much starved for content since the Commando Suit was released. Yes, I know that they have been releasing a lot more weapons since then, but really they are just racial variants of the same Idea. Great for balance, not so great for content. We need something new in this game that will take it from where it is now, to where players want it to be. This would mean, we need Mech Suits! In all seriousness though, the reason for why I would say core mechanics between each item is because there is a lot of it in this game. A lot that needs balance, a lot that really should not exist in this game because it can not be balanced. As for what those things are, I can not say, I still have a lot of work to do to finish my Dust Balance project.
The Integrated Market should exist in a small way. At least allowing players to sell salvaged items back to the market for a discounted price. This should hold players and allow them a way to make more money in DUST before we have "the great merging". As for PVE, that needs to wait a long time. You can't have a PVE game that is just slapped in there. It needs to be very carefully crafted and implemented. Otherwise it will only drive players away. I hate to say it, I really do, but my favorite game of all time does this every time. It annoys me, but I still buy it because it is my favorite game. That game would be Armored Core. You don't purchase Armored Core for the PVE, you purchase it for the PVP, the PVE is just a quick start guide to the game mechanics.
Its great in practice, but will only hold you off for so long.

Ceaseless on topic one. If the game is getting bad hiccups its should be ironed out when possible.
Topic two goes without saying but should metered out after we hit the 'base point' (aka racial base parity) so new guns, new modules, new vehicles should be introduced regularly as well as new game modes, means, and places.
Sorry for relabeling but 3 should be 3.5
My reasoning is that 3 should truly belong to Secondary Market for players so we first have a good idea how much our own isk stacks up on a healthy market before we let the masters of market take part.
As for 4...
4 is going to be take an entirely separate culture to be developed, cultivated, then harvested then nurtured ones. This alone unfortunately as dust 514 is now makes 4 in the fourth place as much as I wished it was given the same amount of energy of 2.

Great only one priority missing and as an unlikely to be elected potential candidate myself (voter) I would like to see the CPM really work with the CSM and CCP on this issue, which should be rather difficult considering how much the CSM cares about interlinking the two games.
The Link. One Universe//One War.
All the above things happen regardless as any EVE player can tell you, rebalancing/nerfing, updated graphics, new content, it all comes. Believe it or not the devs do read the forums, they do read their inbox, they do read their twitter feeds, and plenty more.
However nearly every topic on linking the two games together gets buried in "NERF THIS" "THIS IS OP" which we all know is code for, "My team doesn't know how to properly implement tactics that are available to all players, rather than do what the people who are killing us over and over again are doing, or find a way to counter that, I will post that they are too OP on the forums."
Focusing on the link between Dust and EVE I believe is the most important thing that should be worked on because it is the most over looked and CCP tried to sell the idea of One Universe//One War |

2 Is probably the most important, content keeps the game going and keeps people playing, I would like to see QUALITY content come to the game. My biggest concern is the content that CCP is focused on is based only on DUST and I would like to see it expand as mentioned in the post above.
3 would be nice, as an EVE pilot I would love to be able to supply mercenaries with the tools and equipment that they need, I think this would greatly benefit small DUST corps as they would be able to make extra isk with EVE backing and help pay for a lot of expensive things. It would also make transactions like buying a district outright from a DUST corp using an EVE corp, possible, which would be awesome
4 because I think PVE would add a nice addition to DUST, I think it would be kind of cool to fight the rogue drones.
1 rated last because I believe CCP will focus on this regardless of CPM intervention. They may need a nudge in the right direction, but if there is a bug, or glitch, or an exploit, I am confident they will fix it. |
