So any tankers excited for amarr laser tanks?
they might destroy gunlogi's faster than a railgun, hopefully.
any predictions? maybe just a long beam, or short rapid beams like starwars?

A long Laser beam. Susceptible to close range Blaster or Missile ambushes, but more effective than a Railgun in its optimal range.
Another redline tank.

If it's a beam laser (low tracking, long range), I'll just get in close with my gunnlogi (or minmatar tank) and blast your sluggish tank with a volley of missiles, punch holes with an auto-cannon, or counter snipe with a railgun or artillery shells.
Pulse laser (blaster like), gunnlogis are easily dual tanked, I'll just use a 120mm plate and hardener, and if they're anything like missiles to shield, I'll be fine.

Vulpes beat me to it. CCP has established a well working pattern with EVE. All they have to do to make Dust work is to stick with the patterns from EVE. Admittedly, they haven't been doing a very good job of that.
Lasers in general have long-ish optimals and extremely small fall offs compared to other turrets in their class.
In general, long range turrets have slower tracking, higher volley damage, lower RoF.
In general, short range turrets have faster tracking, lower volley damage, higher RoF.
The short range laser is a pulse laser.
The long range laser is a beam laser.
Hand held energy weapons in Dust use a battery pack so you still have ammo constraints. Energy weapons in EVE use a crystal that can last for several thousand shots. I would like to see the crystals used in Dust laser turrets. To balance out (essentially) limitless ammo they could have a high heat build up or draw from some (future) capacitor.
Edit: Following Dust damage profiles, lasers should eat through shields and be least effective against armor. |
