So if you are new and fresh out of the gates you are probably getting slaughtered. There are a few things you can do to reduce the constant beatings. Squading up is one of them. Getting a Corporation helps immensely. Having a mic lets you ask questions without hassling your team mates. One of the greatest things you can do day one is go to faction warfare.
On the battle finder menu select factional contracts. Pause here a second. Press square, this will allow you to fight for specific factions. Currently there is no opposition fighting for Amarr or Caldari, do not select either one or you will be sorry. Choose Gallente or Minmatar, this truly is easy mode. You will be able to learn a few things about the game and maps without being murdered repeatedly. Try out our fits. Also check out the loyalty store. you can get gear earlier, and since you are guaranteed a win 90% of the time you can afford it. Be careful what you spend as you do not receive ISK.
I hope this helps lessen the mortality rate of our new players.

I should have thought of this. I was out with some guys from the academy and ran into AE and molon labe together. We had 5in my squad a squad of 2and solos. I sent them mail saying "nice job, you just stomped academy guys". They replied "blame ccp".
I will take my students to min gal from now on. Which is easier? Where can I get them some ground time? Starter fits with no core skills can't hold up to these veteran players. |

Very good advice for the new merc. Just be sure to run free suits when you are in Factional Warfare, otherwise you'll become isk-poor rather quickly. |

Not so easy mode now that there are more experienced players and co-ordinated squads taking part for Amarr and Caldari.
Look out! Here comes the Megaman!

To be honest, telling new players that any part of Dust is "easy mode" is just setting them up for a disappointing time.
I'll take getting stomped once very five matches. Even then its a good fight. The guys I am training can actually test the skills they are learning. Its a better alternative than waiting another year or two for matchmaking to work. |

this is good but infeasible advice. How does one get their core skills up immediately? electronics alone takes about 3 weeks. Not to mention your average new guy doesn't grind because its not fun. Most simply move on.

If I may add, I believe that Gal/Min play nicer than Cal/Amarr... You can see this clearly in FW. I have been STOMPED (once) by the squids, and ****** if they don't have style when they can finally work together.

Can anyone explain why things are so one-sided now, as far as Gallente and Minmatar always (always!) beating the tar out of Caldari and Amarr?

For most Dust is about chasing the FoTM. They take advantage of the fact that CCP has never done this before. Every new patch you will see new things exploited. Good thing this creates an opportunity for some new players to have a safety net. Predictable easy fights is a good place to send anyone you want to stay.

Initially, the Gallente and Minmatar had better people playing for them and superior organisation - the orbital networks which sprang up after the patch may have died down a bit now, but they did a lot for those two sides. Once they established some momentum, the opposition started playing for them. Due to the harsh losing penalties vaguely smart players didn't want to lose, so they went to the winning side.
That leaves only people who don't know better on the losing sides. It's a terrible mechanic and why I've stopped playing FW on any side.

Jan-Morat Reis wrote:Can anyone explain why things are so one-sided now, as far as Gallente and Minmatar always (always!) beating the tar out of Caldari and Amarr? There seem to be a few reasons.
1) Those like myself who started ignorant of EVE lore see the racial descriptions and think "ok Min and Gal are the underdogs, the good guys". This leads to everyone who wants to wear a white hat fighting for those two factions.
2)Those of us who have a distinct preference for the gear offered in Min and Gal loyalty stores.
3)It seems that more corps existed at, or prior to, release of 1.7 that have loyalty to Min and Gal; thus better organized teams. This seems to be ever so slowly stabilizing as more Amar and Caldari corps organize across Eve/Dust.
There are likely much more complex reasons for this as well, these are just what I've gleaned from many conversations, across a few alts, on different sides of FW. |
