Hello all, Veka Kari here. Overall an unknown inside of the mass of this games community. Don't let the mini profile on the left side fool you, I have been working behind the scenes with different corps and players to both make them successful, and more streamlined. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself, where I have come from, and where I hope to go, and give you a little idea about what I think my qualifications are for being your CPM1.
I am an adult male, who has a very strong sense of community. I have played many games, to list a few; Counter Strike, Half Life, Portal, Ragnarok Online, Armored Core, World of Warcraft, EverQuest, EvE Online, Minecraft, Firefall, BF1942 (and Desert Combat). This gives me a great deal of knowledge about how to implement MMO's, FPS's, and RPG's, while making them tasteful and easy to play (and consume) for the players.
In pretty much any of those games, I have always played the support class, for one reason, I enjoy making people happy, I enjoy helping others, and ultimately I enjoy letting someone else sit in the limelight for the support that I have given them. I have on few occasions taken the opportunity for gratitude, but that was never my intention. I want, yes want, to be CPM because I believe that I can help the players have a little more of a voice about what DUST should be.
This game, that sisters EvE Online, an open sandbox universe with very little GM/Admin intervention that focus's on community/player driven content, should be very much like that of its sister, about player driven choices and combat. We can only get there if the players have a voice. While you currently can post on the forums, make requests and provide data to the DEV's about whats wrong or should be changed in the game, the DEV's can not be on the fourms 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to read your requests to implement it. They need the CPM to do that, and I feel that I would be a perfect fit for that job.
In any of those games that I have listed I have always worked closely with those who ran the various servers/guilds/groups/clans to make sure that I could be of some use to them, and when I wasn't I never once went off and played 'lone wolf'. I moved on, and continued to find where I had a niche to help them grow. I did so with 89th Infantry Division/Immortal Order, attempted to do so (and failed) with Necr0mongers, and now wait in the wings at The Phoenix Federation for them to utilize me as a conduit for change and improvement.
So what is it that I will do differently from the other contenders for the CPM1 spot? I don't have an agenda. Correction, I do have an agenda, yours. What the community wills I will work my hardest to get worked on and implemented. I have always and will continue to be a conduit for change, improvement, and polish that belongs in this game by utilizing your words, ideas, and mentalities towards this game.
Vote for me, a Conduit for a better DUST514 Experience.

That's the right idea. I am suspicious of CPM candidates who come forward with at 'platform'. Its not the CPMs job to lobby a specific platform but to act as a means of communicating ideas to and from the player base and CCP. |

That is exactly when I played them. More specifically I played CoD MW and MW2, as well as BF1942, and Armored Core. There was pretty little in the way that I would choose to play. Ultimately I am the kind of person, and always have been, that I am picky with the games I choose to play. Mainly because I want quality from the games I choose to spend my money on. So I will read reviews, learn about the dev company, and understand their quality, and their builds of their games. So to sum it up, when I played these games, I played when it was hot, and continued to play them until interest subsided, or the game became broken for one reason or another.

Realistically, on a council of elected players, you'll get a variety of members who represent certain groups of players. I think it's nearly impossible for a candidate to be "completely unbiased", and in most cases, people will elect representatives that embody their views. Because due to the NDA, bear in mind, CPM can't actually go asking players how they should respond to each and every question CCP asks. Players have to put some measure of faith that the CPM reps they elect will convey views that they share. This is best done by electing someone they agree with.
Player feedback is a continual thing that I've always integrated with my view of what does and doesn't need to be focused on with this game. And I'm not going to refuse to present arguments and views that contradict my own. But I'm not going to hide them either. I feel very very strongly about a few issues in particular, and I assume that people who vote for me will probably be people who largely share those views.
I like Veka Kari, and if we get a Wright-STV vote system, he'll probably be on my ballot, we were chatting last night, but on a whole, I'd be more wary of the candidates who claim to not have an agenda than those that do.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

Killar-12, you must understand that the job of CPM is not just to listen to the community, but also to filter the noise. So posts like:
Random Player wrote:LETS BUFF THE AR AND FLAYLOCK AGAIN BECAUSE THAT WOULDN'T BE OP!
Would be filtered out. Mainly because there's no content, its just a request, with no logic or reasoning behind it. Ultimately it could be considered a Troll post. If you really look, there are quite a few gems on the forums. To name two that I encountered, RedBleach LeSanglant, and Ulysses Knapse. They have great Ideas, and are very well structured in their writings. I would listen to them because they have put thought into their ideas. I wont listen to the quotes except as an alert that there may possibly be something wrong.

Even the noise bears some manner of fruit, but there's definitely a group of posters putting real thought and consideration into their posts. The troll posts will tell you where a problem exists, the smart posts will tell you how to fix it. Though, of course, CCP would rather they come up with the solutions. I feel, to some degree, CCP's problem-solving strategies need a bit of work. They overbuff and overnerf instead of cautiously seeking a balance. Usually because they change three or four stats at a time, and fail to see how the overall effect applies.

I wouldn't say that they do this blindly. I think its intentional. So that they can collect data for the game. Think of how many times when they modified something that it went way out of control (looking at vehicles with an eye of scrutiny). I seriously think its intentional, like they are playing a game with the community. That game is called, catch the bugs! Ultimately a great Idea, but it leads to the bugs being nerfed to oblivion and never coming back (looks at the flaylock, an amazing weapon, nerfed to oblivion).

That would be acceptable conduct if this game was still a beta. But they chose to release it.

Actually Soraya Xel, this game IS still in beta. I do not believe they have stated that this game is completely out of Beta. Please correct me if I am wrong.

This game was officially released, and no longer beta, on May 14th, 2013. Uprising was the official launch of the game.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

now regards to the candidency, like you said, you are very much an unknown entity. If you think you would be a good CPM, i suggest demonstrating what you can do by helping the community in one way or another rather than just relying on a well writen forum post.

Your interaction with other posts are good and I see picked up after the 3rd, but I am with those that say you should start working now. Also I have a open invite for CPM1 hopefuls to be on our Podcast Podside. If you have a hard time thinking of anything, maybe start in the rookie sec of the forums and see who needs help.
I do have to say your post is one of the better that I have read today

I see, well a small mistake on my part I hope. As for assisting people on the forum, I have been more in my own way than being vocal on the forums, but I can step it up as it were.
As for appearing on your podcast, I will gladly do so.

A few questions for you (same as I pose to all candidates):
1) Other than the forums how do you intend to collect and communicate requests, needs, POV of the community? In particular, those outside your corp / alliance.
2) What level of interaction would you like to establish between the CPM and CSM?
3) What are the top 3 short term (next 2mo's) changes you would encourage CCP to make?
4) What are the top 3 mid term (next 6mo's) changes you would encourage CCP to make?
5) In Spring of 2015, when CPM1's term is up, what would you want people to have said about your tenure as a CPM member?
6) Will you be creating a channel for folks to meet and sqd with you during the period before the election?
Thank you for your time. |
