1.7 was launched on 12/10 so it hasn't quite been a month yet. Also, remember that between Christmas and new year's the typical company works 3 - 5 days fewer in December than January through November. Finally, at the end of the year a lot of employees have to burn through PTO or they lose it.
With all this considered: don't expect anything about 1.8 until mid-January and don't expect 1.8 until end of January.
Maybe we will get a devblog or two between now and then.

I have not heard of the monthly cycles changing, but they might be.
With the holidays, I would expect 1.8 to be the first week of February and then continue to be the first week of the month like it has traditionally been.
I actually like the monthly release cycles and hope they keep it up.

The devs in the "DevHangout" said nothing is planned for January due to the amount of people on vacation in December/January. They did hint towards something in February, but didn't clarify if it was 1.8 or more hot fixes/patching. |

Next chance you get try asking what effect Chinese New Years will have. After 1.7 dropped I was already bracing myself for a late February release.
