Mine was Halo on COD. Over a friends house and played a FPS for the first time. I WAS HOOKED. I was OK at COD but horrible at HALO. Of course I played online and got curbstomped but it was awesome. Good Times.

I used to be invited to a friend's house (before he graduated) to watch movies and play games. My first fps was Halo, and I remember I used to be trolled really hard because I sucked at it. First match I had I went -2.
When he left I never really picked up an fps until Dust. |

Duck Hunter! I've always wanted to play that game. If you want to talk hardcore gamers, talk to nes players. I borrowed my cousin's nes a while back and they were brutal. I don't know how anyone could have beat those games back then, Mario was practically impossible (and I've beat Dark Souls and Demon's Souls). |

Mine was MAG.
I died 7 times in a row before I killed anyone.
Ranted like crazy on the forums, put it on Amazon for sale the day I got it.
Then I ended up making 100,000 kills and 1400 hours across my accounts.
Actually I played Killzone 2 before that, I was always in the top 3% of players, never 1%, couldn't dedicate enough hours of my week.
I would just spam rockets but got top kills and top points across both teams every game. |

The first online shooter I got into was MGO Not really an FPS shooter but when playing with and against good players, it was very tactical
For me the online play on Metal Gear Solid 4 has not been matched by any other game since How many shooters can you use a cardboard box to evade enemys..?? Or go invisible and play capture the flag with a rubber duck..???
The drebin point system started all players with an even advantage and made games exciting The DLC gave you the ability to play as Ninja Raiden, blocking bullets and slicing fools
MGO never got as popular as the COD's or Battlefield, but as a strategic shooter it was the best
Like this if you played MGO and remember the most awesome gaming on the PS3

I said young not kid...Young does not = kid but judging by the games that were listed it'd be a decent assumption that those who have listed modern games as their FIRST EVER FPS are more than likely of a YOUNGER age. |

An Atari - hardest games ever seriously.
A Sega mega drive - a lot of gaming legends started here and still continue on newer platforms like mortal kombat, yes KOMBAT.
An Nintendo 64 - very good games provided you do some research.
An original PlayStation - decent games there and I dare say many have never played it
An original Xbox - some top notch games on that which are far better than a lot of the trash we have now seriously.
And some pc games circa 95-2001.
If you value story, challenges and gameplay then you will enjoy even reading about these. If you don't and prefer graphics, never losing and being rewarded like a dog simply for playing then forget it lol.
We used to have to complete a game several times sometimes to unlock things, you could actually lose and regularly there was no save option. Now you just buy the unlocks, get trophies and blah blah all those crappy treats to keep you hooked on rubbish that was done 15 years ago and even before that executed it 2d terrible graphics but was great at the time.
Look at the new final fantasy game, its a terrible world of Warcraft clone which is a clone of a clone of a clone. It's all just ultima online but 3d with less to do on the whole lol.
What came before ultima online? That was the first online mmorpg I played and to this day, for years now, my two chars will still be macroed to attack and heal in my safehouse, levelling up lol.
Ps I was one of those PvP murderer's, I had my pitch fork, giant beetle to ride, shield and my infinite space bag with bags in bags in bags in bags in bags etc etc etc lol.

I won't say it was online but the very first fps coop I played was actually on the Wii. Red something... It was a japanese game and you had a mode where you got a call on your Wii remote and it told you a random challenge. IE if there were 4 of you, 3 of you would hear "kill the mystery man" and only one would here 'you are the mystery man'. Or sometimes it was a generic 'kill someone 5 times'.
It was actually a very fun game given that it was the freaking Wii so no one was good at that game. Some of us could somewhat aim. I relied solely on running up next to the person and swinging the controller which was the action to take out your samurai sword and shank them.
THEN, i went backwards and played all the Halos with a friend and then Gears of War, etc. I'd been warned against online fps's based on my brother's behavior and b*tching.

Wolfenstein (original one) there was a weird sci-fi one that I played around the same time but I forget the name and don't remember if it was first or not.
first fps's I religiously played tho were Heretic and Hexen... both ******* excellent games.

There was also another game, forget what its called. But was for the new and started with you like at a jungle base side scrolling and shooting a machine gun, anyone remember its name?
Contra?

I go on the multiplayer co op to bash the ai when I feel like easy mode. The characters progression is a nice bonus as well.

Billy the Kid Returns for MS-DOS. Wasn't really truly a "FPS" (was a TPS) as you were in third person view and could jump and run around but it was close enough for back then and only being three years old. FIrst true FPS would have to be Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. My grandma had the really old video games I used to play when I was really young. She had an Atari 2600 and Segas so I got to play the classics, stuff like Defender, Lunar Lander, Asteroids, Pong, etc.
