I love the small rail gun, it makes a phenomenal mid range cannon with enough speed to and damage to make it a viable weapon. I love using it as a hit and run weapon. But I do not love the methods of using it.
You can attach it to any of the 4 vehicle types in the game (dropship, LAV, HAV, and Assault Dropship), but only one as a primary, and it doesn't do the railgun justice. If you try to use the HAV, or LAV as a carrier for the small turret, then you are going to get frickin annoyed at when ever you switch to it and you have to turn it round to where the vehicle is pointed everytime, the fact that you're a sitting duck while using it, and that its just so annoying trying to get from A to B while using it (the HAV not so much as the tracks do well for rough terrain, but god damn the LAV gets stuck in or flies while going over anything remotely uneven).
The proposition to the problem that only I probably have (although I would love to hear from other Small Turret lovers), is...
Walkers/Mechs/XL Dropsuits.
These would function basically like a Heavy but will only be able to fit heavy weapons and small turrets, fits into the vehicle fitting area, would be called in and be climbed in, would use some form of legs, would be larger than a dropsuit, and be around the price of an LAV and HAV. |

YFW an adv small rail can kill a proto heavy in a few seconds from 50 meters away. All about the small rail life. |

Apart from me while taking out mediums in two shots, and heavies in three or four with a turret the same ROF as a breach assault rifle. |

I have had a couple good games where I've just driven around in a Methana with a small rail on the back, set up somewhere, and shot at infantry and dropships. The small rail is actually pretty nifty. However, you need to be in a heavy suit in order to take any incoming fire even then people can kill you pretty well if they aim for your face.
