Hey, I just wanted some help figuring out what bonus I'd get from using one Complex precision enhancer. I'm not sure what the base scan fedelity of a med-frame is, but I want to know If it makes sense to use them.
If you do answer (which I'd be very grateful), please take into account that people have to put on one enhanced and one basic dampener (or one complex) to beat scans. If the bonus and the module won't beat that, then there's no point in using them.
Thanks again.

For medium frames, skills plus 1 complex puts you below 36. Skills plus 2 complex puts you below 28.
Math wise, skills plus 1 complex and 1 enhanced should put you below 28, but either due to rounding, or backward stacking penalties, it does not.
I have a full thread up about this in the feedback forums.

Are you referring to Enhancers or Dampeners? You mentioned both.
Base scan precision of med suits is 55. Base profile is 50.
And did you want to know if by increasing/ enhancing precision do you beat those with equipped dampeners?
Because scanners use a pre determined precision based on their type, it's not related to your precision in the same way dampeners are.

I guess I wasn't very clear.
I want to know what I will be able to see (What is my scan fidelity) with one Complex Precision enhancer on.
However, I thought it was important to take the Active scanner situation into account. can already see people without dampening mods, and the people who are trying to avoid the active scanner will be wearing a basic and enhanced dampener or a proto one.
If, with a complex precision enhancer, my scan fidelity does not scan targets with 36DB then there is no point in running one at all. Nobody runs just one enhanced dampener. I just wanted someone to help verify the math for it,

This is what I'd like to know. Can you explain the second part of that again, please?

Simple math. Scan precision x skill bonus x enhancer. So natural scan of 50 x level 5 (.90 or 10%) x.80 (20%)= 36 dB. So no you will not scan somebody who can hide from advanced scanners. Then again most people do not stealth so a complex enhancer will pick up about 90% of all suits including scouts. Your biggest enemy is the scan range since default is about 10 meters or right in your face minimap wise. Use a scanner it's a lot better. |

What he means is that a scanner will always scan at 36dB or whatever the scanner says, regardless of your enhancement level or precision enhancing modules. |

So you got suit profile, suit precision, and scan range.
Active scanners scan at a preset fidelity: basic 46 db, advanced 36db, 28proto(15db focused) Dampeners reduce suit profile. So all have to do is determine your suits profile after dampeners(math), then see if it falls under the 'db' of the scanner your are trying to beat. Enhancers decrease(-10,15,20%) or better the precision of your suit by a certain amount. By bettering your precision the passive scan on your suit(radar) can locate lower profile enemy suits. Your suit's precision does not affect the scanners precision. Nor does your suits precision affect the scanners range.
I hope this clears it up, If you need specific math questions answered I first use the search because there is really in depth guides on this stuff that people have made. Also if I screwed up somewhere someone say something please.

If all of the math checks out (Which I think it does), then I should be able to work like an advanced scanner. Based on this post, in a tie between a scanner (passive or otherwise) and dropsuit dampening, the tie goes to the scanner. So if I can get my scan fidelity down to 36DB, it would work out.
Just a confirmation: What is the base scanning ability of an assault suit?

Your scan radius is super low though, only 10 meters, you are practically going to have to be up in people faces to see them.

Scan radius is complete garbage though. 10 meters and 15 meters with skills at level 5.
I wish suits had different scan measurements like they do with stamina and such.
Gallente should have the highest scan range and good precision Caldari should have the lowest Profile and good range Amarr....who cares Minmatar should have a mix of decent precision and low profile with ok range. |

Home I thought drop suit always lost, I guess based on that post having level 5 with a complex means you can scan. That's pretty powerful... hmm
Assault suit would be 55 x those numbers so it would be 39.6 |

You will need only one basic precision enhancer to catch medium suits with lvl V damp skill, if you run medium suit yourself with lvl V prec skill.
To catch a scout with lvl 5 damp skill and no modules, on a medium suit you will need three complex prec modules. With a scout to catch a scout on radar, you will need two advanced or one complex one basic prec module.

My fault, I miss read your post. This is another area where it pays to be a Logi, I'll run the numbers and update in a moment, but base on a med frame and assault is 55, base in a Logi is 50, so all things being equal skill and mod wise, an assault will never catch a Logi.
IMO precision enhancement is fine, its range enhancement that needs a tweak, with full skills and a complex range amp you still only see about the effective range of a sidearm. Helpfully if you are hacking a Null and someone is trying to get right up on you, also help when you are hacking Null or CRU for seeing spawners (I have damp/ precision/ range all 5) and helpful when hugging walls or obstacles with enemies within 15 meters, but not much else. Not to knock those things, it's saved my life a many of times not needing to pull my scanner to give my position away. But don't think it will be as magical as profile dampeners.

Thanks for all of the help guys.
So as I understand it, an Assault suit with one complex Precision Enhancer will have a fidelity of 40 (because DUST rounds up, always). A logi would have a scan fidelity of 36.
So, is there actually a point in even putting a precision enhancer on? I want to make my advanced suit more useful (I don't use proto gear in pubs/FW), but it doesn't look like I'll be getting any more information than I'm already getting. Am I wrong about that?

That's what I was thinking when I looked at the skill. I was willing to trade a high slot for that. But it seems like only Logis and scouts can do it
