Pros and Cons: Pros: Built in regeneration, resists explosives. Cons: Lower EHP, more severe stacking penalty, stacking makes you have a delay when the shields come up. Armor Pros: High EHP, less stacking penalty. Cons: Stacking makes you slower, explosives eat you up, you need to use a armor repairer to repair your armor, but you can just be a logistics unit.

INB4 'shields are crap, armour is OP' or vice versa.
I find both have their uses. I really like shields for their mobility - being a slow armour tanker kind of sucks.

Isn't the delay just for shield depletion? I'd understand if it was recharge but damn it needed to have some kind of penalty.
inb4 Shielding sucks.
inb4 armor is OP (hint most of the time people say armor is OP they really just mean logis, I mean how many Gallente Assault gk.0s do you see and how many Amarr assault ak.0s do you see out there?

There's your answer armor QQers It did have a penalty... DRASTICALLY LOWER HP!!! I'd understand if it has more shields than armor...but 7% for complex??? WTF!!! I mean compelx armor needs to be 7% as well to balance it out.

Shields vs. Armor should be largely personal preference based on your individual play style. Should be.
However the armor plate's ability to stack significantly higher hp with less penalties means that if you want to rush through gunfire like a rampaging boar you need armor. I think the stacking penalty for armor needs to increase so players are using cover more effectively and with fore thought, but the new weapons's damage against armor is a good start.
Of course I shudder to think of what a Gallente Heavy would look likeGǪBut a shield tanking Min or Caldari heavy would be similarly questionable. |

If you don't think armor is OP, you're an armor tanker. Why bother with shields when armor tankers can stack two damage mods and have nearly 1k total health, and can be easily repped by hives or a focused repair tool? |

We don't have the CPU/PG for everything.

Hmm... well with the light plates you don't slow down and the medium plates grant reps with a lower speed penalty than the heavy plates. All 3 are able to grant more eHP than extenders.
Then again I do like the tactical aspects of codebreakers, biotics, dampeners, etc. I would say base it on what you want to equip. If you want to dish out damage than shield tank. If you want a more tactical set up than rock shields.

I'd like to see a few changes to shield tanking:
Greatly increase the base recharge rate of shields on all dropsuits, I'm thinking like 50-70/sec.
Change the penalty for stacking shields to increase recharge delay (both depleted and regular) and decrease recharge amount.
The idea is that having low hp will have quick, large regens for multiple encounters, and large hp with longer regen times.

I mean compelx armor needs to be 7% as well to balance it out. The movement penalty balances it out pretty well. Even the 3% from the enhanced limits mobility pretty badly; with just one on it's almost impossible to jump over rails and difficult to jump on something that's raised 3ft. With TTK being so low that loss of mobility will get you killed when it's time to get the fck out of where ever you are.
With TTK being so low, armor & shields are pretty useless unless you're standing on a few rep hives then armor is alright but you'll still be dead after one flux takes those out. Personally speed is where it's at right now; being able to get around that corner, over that ledge, or weave through cover a little faster will keep you alive a lot longer than anything else.
CCP: Is it the most asinine way possible to do this? Yes. Then that's how we're doing it.

Depends on your playstyle, if you are more a hit and run guy go for shields, if you are more defensiv or have a good logi running with you go for armor. The usage of damage modshas it's limits based on the numbers shieldextenders are more usefull...
Regarding the penalty I hardly notice the penalty on my dual extender scout or my tripple extender assaults...
After constantlyplaying scouts for the last week for me the movementpenalty is nearly unbearable, but this is my personal taste... |

Show me a Gallente Assault with 1k total health, 8+hp/s regen (5hp/s is ****, deny it all you want forum warriors) and two damage mods. It will probably have a severe drawback that makes it not viable in combat.
Compact hive fits do not count (Though I believe even then it's not possible)
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

You forget to mention head shots are a OHK for some one reliant on armor. Combine this with the hit detection for hip firing and any heavy with an HMG is an even match for a SMG using anyone (at close ranges). |

Shields require a different playstyle. It focuses more on absorbing damage, and ducking behind cover to regen. You can't let your shields drop to zero, because it severely hampers your regenerative abilities.
I run a Minmatar Assault with a shield tank, Complex Ferro in my low and a Complex Kincat. I can only get away with the PG due to the awesome ~8 PG a Proto CR and Flaylock cost.
Thing is fast, and suprisingly tough, coming around to around 430 Shields, 251 Armor and sprints at 8.77. Scout on steroids.
