Started a fresh new ALT today to start working on a sneaky scout. I have zero skills in anything besides remote explosives. I am just running a militia scout suit. And I see SCAN PREVENTED. Pretty sweet. But really. What kind of BS equipment are you people using that it can't even pick up a brand new militia scout with zero skills? What is the point of that scanner? To only pick up medium frames or higher? lol

I agree. My logi runs the pimp ****. But I swear. Today, probably 3rd match out of the academy. I blew up a dude on D with remotes and then shotgunned two of his buddies that ran in for the hack after him. They spawned at the CRU so I laid down some more remotes on D and ran the hell out of there. As I ran away I saw SCAN PREVENTED. Was a pretty scouty feeling. Didn't even know it was possible in militia gear.

probably someone running lvl 1 scanner. It scans at 46 dB. Militia Scouts are 45dB. They missed you by 'that' much.

I guess that explains it. So that means the lvl. 1 scanner can't pick up scouts of any level. Interesting. I know most serious players are going to use ADV at least but that means I can probably disregard dampening skills for awhile on my new alt so I can focus on other stuff first as I will be grinding pubs to build his new little fortune.

In my experience, most players will take in a least a lvl 3 scanner for this reason. People new to the ballerina party are just now getting lvl 1. I've only seen a few jump that gap to proto scanner. With so many other flashy toys to skill into, I think people forget to up this one. I would put in a few to the dampeners early on just to be safe, but honestly core is more important.

On my main I have the proto scanner and I love it. Got sick of getting snuck up on while repping fatties. The way I look at it is having the dampening will open up more parts of the map to me (the parts with people who can't scan me) eventually. For now I have to stick to my home letter and guard it and run away alot. As I get the skills up I'll move to holding there home point. It's more fun but I'm soooo fragile right now. I only have 100 shields and 70 armor. lol

And actually, militia and lvl 1 vehicle module scanners can detect 45db. So if it was a vehicle, he would have been caught.

STD, not much reason to go further than that, most suits aren't built for dampening, and the ones that are aren't really that much of a threat cause they put them selves at a disadvantage, so long as you stay on your toes dampened suits don't get much of an edge. |

On the converse of that, I want you to know OP that while scanning, I very carefully look a the radar. Sometimes, you blimp but don't stay light up. I face the direction of your disappearing red dot with fear awaiting the death of shot gun to the face X(

That makes sense to me though. You give up your speed tank to damp tank. A trade off is made for the benefit. But a militia suit with absolutely no skills or modules should not be able to beat a STD scanner. Dude with the scanner has SP invested and the militia suit has none. He might as well be spinning around in a circle with his **** in his hands instead of a scanner if it can't even pick up militia suits.

The ability to detect in a circle like that is not intended. It has been claimed to be a bug, so if the bug is malfunctioning, nobody really cares.
The scanners are meant to scan in a block-by-block radius from your location, and miss anything that is not within the next scan block regardless of distance.

I kind of agree that a militia suit shouldn't beat a lvl1 scanner, but I believe a lvl 1 scout should beat a lvl1 scanner, and a lvl3 scout beat a lvl3 scanner, etc. I actually think the one tier down system is the way it should have worked. I'm not a scout, but from what I understand, there is no way for a proto scout to beat a proto scanner. In my personal opinion:
proto suit + dampening sp > one piece of equipment on my suit
However, i think the issue here is the militia is so very similar to the lvl1 suits on purpose to give us an idea of what we're going to be skilling into, but there needs to be some very minute nuances that make that distinction. right now I think the only distinction is the meta level and that's it.
